X-Fi Digital out

Well I am planning on buying the X-Fi Digital I/O adapter within the week here. Just curious for those who use this item with your A/V reciever. Do you set the X-Fi as a pass thru and let the A/V reciever do the DD and DTS decoding? And can you use CMSS thru the digital out? I only have a 3.1 system and think CMSS would do a good job.

All X-Fis have a digital output, so why do you feel you need an adapter? Does your receiver only have an optical input?

I am not sure where else I am going to output it with a minijack to rca on my reciever. I have a few optical cables around the house here so it may be cheaper in the long run. I can also hook up some digital devices to my comp with the adapter. But if it can be done without enlighten me please.

If you have an rca digital input on your receiver, just buy a headphone to rca adapter from Radio Shack for $3 or $4 bucks. Don't forget to configure the X-Fi to Digital Output.

that adapter may do the trick but not as well as a real digital coax cable will.

I use a custom made digital coax cable made by blue jeans cable. It has a mono mini plug on one end and a RCA on the other

oh and yes, you can use CMOS 3D with the digital out!

http://bluejeanscable.com/store/digital-audio/index.htm

I have the Belden 1505F Coax. You'll have to email them and use their custom order page, but they'll make it for you and charge you $5 more then the price for a regular RCA coax. Mine is 7' long, but I could actually use a longer one so if you want one 7' or shorter maybe we could work something out.

Soloz if you did go the way I am as I discussed thru PM using an AV reciever would you just put it to external and let the reciever do all the DD and DTS? Also I got it up and going for now and the cans sound much fuller then before. The bass hits a little harder and the highs are a little higher.

yeah, if you've got a good receiver then let it do the processing. I've considered getting another cable for my HTPC (aka my wife's rig) because that computer is hooked up to my media center so it would be nice to have dolby digital out. But for now the custom mini-rca cable I made is doing a good job!
