i5-2500k, 90°C at full load?

Thread Starter
Here goes my first post!

So I just built up my first PC by myself a week ago, and it runs smoothly. Thermaltake V3, ASRock Z77 Extreme4 + i5-2500k with stock heatsink fan. One 120mm exhaust fan in the upper back and one 120mm intake fan in the lower front, in front of the HDD.

The problem is, if I play Battlefield 3, after let's say 2-3 hours of gaming, the processor's temp becomes 90°C doh.gif (decreased back into 35°C in 5 minutes though, room temperature is about 25°C)

Is that normal? I just bought a new thermalpaste (coolermaster, cheapest one), removed the stock paste, and applied the new one yesterday, but it seems that nothing changed.

154

So what should I do? Let it be, change the paste again, or buy a new heatsink fan? Should I buy a new heatsink fan, what should it be?

P.S. GPU is GV-N560OC-1GI, temp never exceeds 60°C.

90C = damage to CPU. You want to make sure you tightened the cooler down enough to make good contact. Additionally, I would change out stock thermal paste because it is and performs like garbage.

Definitely replace the stock fan. Is it OCed at all right now? If so, I would put it back to stock speeds until you get a better cooler.

I am pretty confident there is no Microcenter in Nanjing, China.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll consider buying it.

I think I installed it tight enough. I changed the thermalpaste already.

Hyper 212+ is the best option without getting crazy expensive. And it allows for nifty OCs.

What's the difference between 212+ and 212 EVO? Or it's the same?
