i5-2500k, 90°C at full load? - Page 2

Pretty weird that it would hit that high with the stock cooler...

But yeah, definitely do get an after-market one like many have suggested here.

EDIT:

What's the difference between 212+ and 212 EVO? Or it's the same?

They're essentially identical in terms of performance; most just jump with the "+" version since it's the one that goes on sale (note: rebate) every once in a while... in the States, at least.

I would suggest you get that cooler and try it, if your temps are still higher at load than they should be than you may want to rma the chip. Either way though you will want the cooler for lower temps.

For the love of god don't burn your CPU!! Get a Noctua / H80 to cool that beast, you'll be seeing about 20 degrees off of those scorching temps my friend biggrin.gif!!

Thanks! biggrin.gif

This morning I reapplied the paste after seeing some tips on applying it. The previous one was my first try without any guidance redface.gif

Eh, the maximum temperature dropped to 82°C, but I think that's still high! So I'll definitely get that cooler.

82C is nuts for a stock 2500k. Even with my 2500k @ 4.5GHz my air cooler was only gettin upto 62C on a hot day... I had the Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 cooler on it, then I went to the H50 cooler.

Somethin is wrong. Either pasting it wrong or using terrible paste

Agreed. Too much thermal paste can be just as bad as too little...and is easier to do. I've seen entire tubes of thermal grease used on one install by customers and it's a mess to clean up and creates horrible temperatures.

Make a line the size of a grain of rice and be sure it's clamped down right. The directions on the stock heatsink confuse a lot of people too, so make sure you have the screws the right way to lock it down. I've built a lot of computers and I still screw it up if I'm not paying attention smile.gif

I applied only a little (3mm-diameter circle) on the middle and then put the sink tightly. And locked it, too... All according to the manual book.

Just in case the paste is bad, which paste should I buy?
