ASRock Z68 not giving sound

Never had this problem before, so I don't know where to start... I've tried my speakers, and a pair of earbuds, not getting any sound. I've installed the latest realtek drivers for the motherboard, still nothing. Any idea? confused.gif

Are you using the ones from the CD or from the website?

You may try uninstalling and reinstalling with the latest drivers via website. Then, if that doesn't work, we can always go from there. thumb.gif

Uninstalled the CD drivers and got the new ones on the website, still receiving no sound. Is this a common thing with the Z68's? I came from a asus P67...

Did you do a fresh install of Windows? Or just install over what you already had?

Fresh install of windows? Could have swore we were talking about audio drivers :X
I've uninstalled the old CD realtek drivers, rebooted, then downloaded new ones from the website and installed.

I've googled this for about an hour, and seeing this is a somewhat common problem with the z68's, am I better off just buying a cheap sound card? Something like THIS?

Usually when you upgrade a motherboard or CPU, a new windows install is recommended. That's why the question was asked, and I also recommend reinstalling windows as well.

When you say you uninstalled the old drivers.

Did you go into Control panel, then Device manager, then go to sound, and right-click Realtek HD Audio then uninstall ? If you didn't, then try that, Restart. Then Windows should find some standard drivers for it upon booting up again.

Try these Drivers. (I'm using these, and they're perfect)

We are talking about audio drivers.. But when you install a different motherboard and or CPU it's recommended that you re-install to ensure nothing will there to contradict the swap.

You could. If you can live with on-board sound not working then go for it. However, I'd double check to make sure everything else is working in case you need to get an exchange or RMA.

This. Also, I'd go into your C: drive and delete all the folders as well, just to be on the safe side. Unless reinstalling Windows IS an option for you.
