Rosewill RK-9000

Hey guys, I just had a question concerning the Rosewill RK-9000 board if any of you have used or own this particular board.

I've been looking to get a mechanical keyboard for awhile and I came across this board not too long ago. It's essentially from what I understand a re-branded Filco, but for about half the price when it's on sale. Upon investigating Newegg's user reviews, there seem to be a lot of complains about a loose or flimsy mini-USB connector. I was wondering how bad this is? I don't plan on moving the board much, but if it's going to lose connection in 3-4 months it's not worth the investment.

For anyone else interested, it's on sale for $68 bucks shipped until tomorrow night.

i bought one. it was $64 for me though. from what i've read, the USB won't have a problem as long as you don't move it and take good care of it. Also, you can epoxy it in some fashion to increase durability. I think it was worth.

Hi,

I've owned a rosewill RK9000, the second version with the detachable cable.

let me clear a few facts :
-They are NOT rebranded Filcos
-They are made in the same factory than Filcos, which is Costar (in Taiwan)
-They have nice key caps
-The overall build and feel is really really good.
-The cable SUCK
-The mini-usb connector in which you plug the cable is not fixed to the PCB, but only poorly soldered. It WILL crap out on you after 3-4 months, even if you dont touch the cable at all.
-You CAN fix it yourself if you know how to desolder and solder, but if you screw up (like I did) you will end up with a 100$ paperweight.

The cable WILL crap on you, I though the exact same thing when I first got it and it ended up breaking for no reason really quickly.

Thanks for the input. I decided after the forum that lolwatpear linked that I was going to pass on this deal. There were just way too many negative reviews about that poor USB connector. For $65+ dollars, a keyboard should last you years, not months. After posting this, I realized that expecting this board to only last 6 months was ridiculous.

I decided to put out some more money and ordered a Das. After a student discount, it was only $45 bucks more, and I expect it to last much longer. I know Das isn't the most critically acclaimed board of all time for mechanical enthusiasts(probably because of its glossy finish), but it's my first mechanical, and it's what I would consider middle of the road for price(about $115 shipped) after student discount.

Thanks for the added opinion, hopefully this steers a few others away from ordering it and regretting it later on.

Good choice!
The only reason the Das isnt critically acclaimed IMO is because of the glossy finish. It's still a top quality keyboard. I hope you'll enjoy it!

You should post some picture and give us your thoughts when you receive it thumb.gif
