/etc/default/grub, edit that and find GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT, add your nosetmode and update grub:
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
reboot, try it! I believe that is where the switch goes.

So I added nomodeset into my grub config and what do you know.. IT WORKS 100%! GUI desktop loaded smoothly with no graphical hitches and I was finally able to enjoy my Linux Ubuntu Experience I have been so eagerly waiting to have! I'm interested to see the changes made for 12.04.

It's been a long time coming and I want to thank you guys once again for all of the help! I appreciate the fact that everyone stuck with me and tried to help me out with this problem. Now that it is fixed, I will finally be able to get started with the rest of my setup.

Thanks again OCN! thumb.gif

NP, good to see things work properly now. With the edit I told you to do, new updates shouldn't break anything. Unless they ask you to replace /etc/default/grub but just make a backup somewhere and if it ever goes flaky restore the backup. Easy way to do the backup would be:

sudo cp /etc/default/grub /etc/default/grub.bak

cp (copy) requires original file and destination in cli, it's actually much easier than using a GUI once you get used to it.

Or just check the grub file to make sure the setting is there before rebooting ( if he is ever asked to replace it ) and if so edit it and mkconfig again.

Yeah but if he's asked to replace the file all he does is restore the backup. Which will end up being less work, though you could just re-edit it like you said. It's not really a big deal, just makes it easier because now he wouldn't have to remember the command. IMO it's easier to remember a CLI command that I'll use often than to remember something I put in grub once and might never see again for months. That's just how I see it.

# grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

Really hard to remember eh?

Or since he is using Ubuntu, they make it really easy...

# update-grub

There's almost no excuse for not knowing it as it's so easy either way, lol.

So how does it hurt for him to backup /etc/default/grub just in case he forgets the command(nosetmode). It's much easier to find how to update grub.cfg in the wiki than it might be for him to remember the command. I guess now its on the forum, I've just found it easier to not have to deal with re-searching when my backup is right there.
