Why so many with onboard video?

Thread Starter
I'm looking at upgrading and since looking around, why are so many MOBOs coming with the on board video? When looking at the details on newegg, they all say that they don't. So what is the VGA and DVI ports?

There are still plenty of people (non-gamers) who are looking for budget solutions. A $50 board that already has video on it is much easier than a $50 + minimum $50 gpu. I've seen Newegg get details wrong on products plenty of times. Not trying to bash them or anything, just saying, it happens. Just have to look at pictures for yourself. But it's not like there's anything wrong with onboard video.

I've been looking at the pictures and many of the $150+ boards have them in the pictures. Boards that I would think eliminate the buyer that doesn't have a video card.

Pretty much this I would say. Just curious, why so set on getting a board that specifically excludes video? What kind of boards/features are you looking for?

Well, alot of people don't game. For most of the world if it can do smooth 1080p video, its good enough. So its cheaper for them to get one with an igpu. Plus most cpus got gpus inside these days

The entirety of the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge lineup contain GPUs in them. Intel's z77 chipset officially supports these GPUs, as did z68 and p67. It would be silly of any manufacturer to produce a board, based on the official Intel chipsets, which are built for CPUs that have GPUs, to not offer these ports.

They add a few bucks to the cost of the mobo, but they'd impact their addressable market in the tens of thousands by removing the ports. It's good business sense to leave them included. All they do is take up space on the backplane if you don't enable the IGP.

I don't understand the fuss.

I've just always liked less things to cause problems. And usually that space is used instead of USB slots, which I'm a glutton for using tons of USB devices.
