CSS/Module problem

post #1 of 12
Thread Starter
I was messing with the website right after I had finished it and broke something--now the two images on my front-page are off. The widths are supposed to be 67 and 33, but instead they are 50 50.

http://helpmerepair.com/Spark/

This is how it should look.

I can easily get it to adjust through Firebug (I alter the two lines "horizontal float-left width50"). I've tried looking in CSS files and modules but can't get them to fix--any ideas?

Right after div id="maintop", the left block starts div class="horizontal float-left width50 separator". Here instead of width50 put width67.
So this should look div class="horizontal float-left width67 separator" in the HTML. There is no change in the CSS.

A bit later there's the right block div class="horizontal float-left width50". Here instead of width50 put width33.
So this should look div class="horizontal float-left width33 separator" in the HTML. You have the classes width67 & width33 already defined in the CSS.

See if this works

Thanks, but that's exactly what I did as I stated in the OP: "(I alter the two lines "horizontal float-left width50")."

My problem is having it stick. I can manipulate it temporarily via Firebug, but I'm not sure how to make it stick.

I attempted to save the site and tweak it offline myself. I ran into more issues after I had manipulated the width.

I'll play around with it some more.

Nikhil gave the correct answer, you need to actually edit the page itself. Editing in Firebug won't save anything. Looks like you're using Joomla, not sure if what you need to edit is in the theme or whatever article you set as homepage or maybe it's a module. I can't tell without being in the admin panel.

I don't like this the way this theme file is coded, seems to be way too many divs for its layout.

I understand that and was well aware of it prior to posting here. My problem is finding where in the back-end or which file needs to be edited to make the changes permanent.

Looking through the css files from the view source I think you just need to change the class names of the elements your trying to change to width67 and width33 for the appropriate elements instead of width50 that they are now. I don't think you'll need to change any css as there are already styles put in place for width67 to read as 67% and width33 to read as 33%.

So the element that is 67% is now:
class="horizontal float-left width67 separator"

and the element that is 33% is now:
class="horizontal float-left width33"

these two change are made in the html of the page.

I hope that makes sense and helps you out.

I'm not sure that I have access to the HTML of the page. I've been looking for those lines everywhere, to no avail. I'm in the process of reinstalling the theme and restoring a DB backup in hopes of it going back to the 67 33.

I would imagine you have access to the HTML or PHP, whatever format the file is saved as. If its your home page it might be saved as index.html or index.php. Did you change anything on the site? Or is what your trying to get it to look like the default template layout?

I was just messing with how I want the frontpage to look like. After trying some options, I reverted to the original and ever since, it became a 50 50. There's nothing of use in the index.html unfortunately.
