Phenom ECC Memory Questions

Thread Starter
Hey OCN, long time no see! I'm working on an interim server until my new parts arrive. I'm currently running a PII 955 on an Asus M4A79T. This motherboard supports a maximum of 16GB of memory and allows ECC Registered DIMMs at 1066MHz. I'm looking to purchase memory for my replacement build and I'd like to know if it would be compatible; it's 2x 8GB registered sticks running at 1600MHz.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161555

My questions:

1. Given the maximum memory allowance of 16GB and age of the board, will it still be able to read 8GB sticks?
2. Since the DIMMs run at 1600MHz, will the board be able to downclock the memory and retain ECC capabilities?

Sorry if these questions are obvious, I'm still fairly new to the server scene.
