It varies a bit. From 25C to maybe a bit over 30C. I can't really tell, but it gets really hot sometimes so I'm using a fan in my room.

well if noise is the main issue, the 670 and 680 are much quieter overall, i believe.

2db is twice the noise. at full throttle, the 680 is MUCH quieter.

Get the Antect 620 water cooler and do the mod. Then that way you'll cool your GPU for now, and a year or two down the road, whatever else you get, you can just take the 620 with you to your next card! Best option all around! My load temps on my 580 are around 54C

I think that picture is reference 580.. the gainward appears to be louder though. Google noise levels between 580s and then compare to 670s (or straight jump to 690). I'd personally skip 680.

This, maybe swap the fans out for AP15's or something too? That'd make it completely silent!
You can get plates for them on here, they're $7 or so each, the watercooler is about $50 on the egg and maybe a few VRM's which is less then $15 on the egg.
Otherwise I'd go for a 4GB GTX670, or even a 2GB it's an upgrade + cooler and quieter!
It is rather terrible that it's louder than reference though....

Yeah, they're pretty much the same thing really. They come from the same factory pretty much...
A H40/H50/H60 would be better 'cause of the warranty, I'd personally go with the cheaper one!
