[Build Log] Watercooled Prodigy Build | Kurisu (now with a second Prodigy!) Updated 02/20/2014

After seeing the Prodigy from the news section, I just couldn't shake my mind off of it, so I decided to sell off my TJ07 build and start anew with my first m-itx build. I always wanted to do one, but never gave it enough consideration until the Prodigy came along. My thanks goes to everyone who bought my whole TJ07 rig in a span of 5 days, it has helped me almost break even with the new build! thumb.gif

The build is named after a fictional character from Steins;Gate named Makise Kurisu. My girlfriend bought me a 1/8 scale figure of her (my first ever figure) and my avatar is a photo I took of that figure. Below is a photo I took of the build alongside the figure.

Parts list:

H2O list:
  • Pump: Swiftech MCP 655 Vario (soon to be DDC 35X from Swiftech Apogee Drive II)
  • Reservoir: XSPC D5 Tank Pump Top/Reservoir (soon to be Bitspower Water Tank Z-Multi 80 Inline Reservoir)
  • Radiator: XSPC EX240 +EX120 (both painted white)
  • Fans: 8x 7x 2150RPM Gentle Typhoons (painted white)
  • CPU Waterblock: XSPC Raystorm (soon to be Swiftech Apogee Drive II)
  • GPU Waterblock: EK FC 7950 Acetal/Copper
  • Tubing: 1/2"ID 3/4"OD solid white tubing (not sure what brand)
  • Fittings: XSPC Black Chrome 1/2"ID 3/4"OD Compressions + 45/90 degree adapters

Future Mods:
  • Window mod Bought a window panel from Newegg, though I want to make the left side panel windowed as well.
  • Relocation of the Power/Reset buttons

Completed mods:
Progression List:
  • Everything is bought aside from case and will be coming in any time soon. (7/20/2012)
  • Currently have everything aircooled and awaiting my Raystorm block, so I can do a full loop test for leaks and temps. (7/24/2012)
  • Preordered Black Bitfenix Prodigy from Newegg (7/24/2012) Bought from NCIX instead.
  • Got the EK FC7950 and XSPC Raystorm installed, along with the RX240. Great temps for both components on a single rad. (7/26/2012)
  • Received my two S-IPS HP monitors to make an Eyefinity setup. (08/04/2012)
  • Finally got my Prodigy! (08/06/2012)
  • Painted radiator and GTs (08/09/2012 ~ 08/10/2012)
  • Assembled Prodigy with parts and watercooling loop. (08/12/2012)
  • Transition from RX240 to EX240 + front panel reversal (08/27/2012)
  • Transition to no 3.5" drives (10/17/2012)
  • Currently cleaning up build and adding EX120 to the loop (10/25/2012)
[*[ Maintenance as well as reconstruction of the loop + wiring (6/4/2013)
  • Bought a windowed side panel from Newegg (6/18/2013)
  • Reconstruction #2 (7/18/2013)
  • Transition from IPS Eyefinity to 27" Qnix 1440p 8-bit PLS panel OC'ed to 120Hz! (10/18/2013)
  • Reconstruction #3 (December 2013)
  • Swiftech Apogee Drive II + Bitspower Water Tank Z-Multi 80 Inline Reservoir received (January 2014)

===================================================================================================================

Second Prodigy here!

Parts:
  • Case: Bitfenix Prodigy Arctic White
  • Motherboard: Asrock Z77E-ITX
  • CPU: Intel i5 3570K 4ghz @ 1.064v (barely hits 60C with Prime95 on stock cooler)
  • GPU : XFX 7850 1GB Core Edition (1000core/1250mem on stock voltage)
  • RAM: Samsung DDR3 2x4GB Eco 30nm
  • Storage: Western Digital Blue 1TB 3.5" HDD
  • ODD: LG Blu-ray Drive
  • PSU: Rosewill Green Series 500W

I will try to keep this updated unlike my TJ07 build! I never even posted my transition from AMD to Intel nor putting the 5870s in parallel for my loop for that build. applaud.gif

Currently have my 3570K at 4.5Ghz with 1.16V and temps hit 50~60 across the cores with Prime95 Blend. This is with a XSPC Rasa CPU block, MCP655 at level 3 setting, and a 360mm double-thick rad with 3x GTs in push. 4.6ghz and above isn't very stable and it takes about 1.28v just for 4.8ghz to boot up. I don't think my chip is that great though, but I don't care too much about high overclocks after hitting 5ghz with my old 2550K.

I love the boot time of the motherboard itself. From power on to the Windows Logo boot up is about 2~3 seconds. The BIOS is almost the same as my Asrock P67 Extreme4 Gen3, so it's very welcoming coming from an Asrock board.

My only gripe is the position of CPU 8-pin and that it comes with an unnecessary Wi-fi module, but this could be useful if the performance is better than my USB one. This is something I will test out eventually.

Well it looks like I'm late in updating, but so far the build is doing well. My 7950 came earlier than expected and I spent the time playing around with it instead of uploading photos, then I had a lot of work and went out to watch a comedy show yesterday. Pictures will be from both my Galaxy SII and a Canon Rebel XTi, so quality will vary.

Here are some unboxing pictures (click to enlarge):

Just as a warning, each thing is going to be photo-heavy, so I'll split them off to separate sections.

Looks like a package from Frozen CPU and someone else... I wonder what it is? biggrin.gif

It's my EK FC 7950 Acetal/Copper Waterblock!

As a future mod, I'm planning on painting the RX240 white and also painting the blades of my GTs white as well:

Here is my preorder for the Prodigy. wheee.gifwheee.gifwheee.gif

Also, depending on how temps look like on a single RX240, I might purchase an additional RX/EX120 to fully utilize my amount of GTs (4x push/pull on the RX240, 2x push/pull on a 120 rad, and 1 front intake, 1 rear exhaust).

I will have to wait on that additional rad and getting a rotary tool as I have already gone over budget and have a $400 speeding ticket and $40 parking ticket to pay for. mad.gif After I get the rotary tool, which will probably be the Black & Decker RTX-6, I can work on cutting that 5.25" drive bay so I won't have issues with my RX240 push/pull configuration and also start working on a window mod.

If and when my build is finally complete, I will probably try tackling sleeving my Seasonic X750 with MDPC sleeving. I will most likely use a mixture of Shade 19 and Vanilla Sands N17 as they match my PSU and motherboard very well. As for fans, I would have to decide between white or Shade 19.

If you don't already know, alot of fan controllers won't work in the drive bay with a 240 rad anyways because the heatsinks on the controller will hit the rad. For example, the bitfenix recon, will not fit with an H100, and the H100 is a pretty thin rad compared to an RX 240.
