GROW UP

Sure, care to explain like a mature unbiased adult on how it's any better than their competition, Steam?

I'm not sure if you understand what the word "competition" means. In business when you're competing with a rival, offering similar services, you must offer something different and better or else you'll just be a fad. And the "head start" excuse reenforces the challenger's lacking ability and confidence in the arena. EA is making a fool of themselves, goes to show how EA is nothing more than a "bottom line" company that lacks all innovative initiative.

Competition just means that there is another competitor in the same 'space'. That's it.

To try and add anything else is subjective.

Grocery Store A sells Coke.

Grocery Store B sells Coke.

Because they sell the same product, they aren't competitors?? I think not. They will try and differentiate themselves from one another to draw the customers; but because they carry and sell the same products doesn't mean they aren't competing for the same dollars.

I'm not saying it's better or that it will be, but they are obviously making it better and yet people are whining about it ?
You make it sound like having this new features is as easy as creating an app, it's not even close.

They are competing, at selling games. Not making a better program

I think it is more like

Grocery Store A (i.e Steam) starts selling coke years before Store B (Origin) and they also sell pepsi and a million other brands of soda.

And for years you have bought coke, pepsi or other soda products from Store A, then store B comes along only selling pepsi. Not coke, not any other brands, just pepsi. And they usually sell it at the same or higher price than the store you went to for the last 3+ years.

So yes they are competitors, but one store has much more choice, probably better prices, and store B offers nothing more than Store A does in terms of innovation. So why go to store B?

Only in the past year or so were EA being idiots and choosing to limit a couple of games to their "Store" only. Very stupid decision as they would have made much more money and sold many more copies had they allowed BF3 to be on steam.

Making it better? Ok a few tweaks and they call it a "major update"? Umm, few tweaks is not major.

Secondly, easy as creating an app? Showing the time for example is not that hard at all. I have done tons of programming and depending on what language they are using, the methods vary slightly. But I'm sorry, in order to give it a title of a major release they need to do major revamping. Not make big hype about very minimalistic things. Also, creating an app, such as a mobile phone application, is not THAT easy to do. I mean unless you are one of those generic mobile app companies, that just copy-pasta other games on the market and slap new textures on the game.

Finally, they ARE focusing on creating a better service at selling games through Origin, which is an application or program. If they want to improve and compete more with selling games, they need to do major updates to the application which is supplying the service aka the program.

They are not simply trying to make money. EA does not need to try to make money.

Their aim with restricting games to the platform was to start creating a frequent user base.

All the Sims players.

All the Battlefield players.

All the Crysis players.

All the EA Sports title players.

They will all be part of creating a user base with which to start their Origin campaign and all those titles have either huge or large followings.

Making money isn't the problem for them, its kickstarting their new business focus and using large games such as BF3 to do so is an obvious strategy, hence the HL2/Steam drama in 2003.

So if this is what what they call a landmark update.....I'd hate to see the next one they come up with. Maybe the next one will actually have a big shiny "DELETE ACCOUNT" button. I looked on Google, an ea's own site for hours trying to figure out how to delete my origin account, only to find out that you had to PETITION and REQUEST for your account to be deleted. lachen.giflachen.gif Guess thats one way to keep the numbers pretty for investors biggrin.gif
