Questsion About A PSU.

Thread Starter
I bought This power supply:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152036 and i am wondering if i can use the extra black 6 pin to power another graphics card, even though there is only one red PCIE connection to the PSU. if not is there a cable that can power two 6 and 6+2 pins from the one modular connection?
Thanks in advance

I would check the Manual and see what the difference is between the Red and Black 6-pins. Unless they're carrying drastically different Amperages or Voltages, I see no reason why a 6-pin wouldn't work in a video card.

According to specs, you have 2 (6+2 pin) connectors. Which graphics cards are these going into?

i have a GTX 670, but i will eventually upgrade to dual 670s and they need a 6+2 and a 6 pin, so i used up both of the connectors included already.

Your power supply is not capable of running two GTX670s. It is actually a ~400W power supply that's been fraudulently labeled. I recommend a quality 600W or greater PSU for two GTX670s. Additionally, the black six pins are for SATA and carry +12V, +5V, and +3.3V, instead of the pure +12V on the PCIe connectors, and so are incompatible.

If it's not too soon to return it for a refund, do so. If it is? throw it in the closet to test fans with or something.. You don't want a junk PSU with ~$1000 of GPU and who knows how many hundreds in the CPU and other hardware.

this. i watched a friend toast a mobo and 6870 with a cheap psu like that took about 2 minutes of games and out came the sparks

Like Phaedrus said, it's a falsely advertised PSU. If you want to run 2 670's then you are better off getting a good quality 600+ watt unit
