I'm having my dying G400 replaced with a G500, Logitech is cool enough they allowed me to go up a model because of the issues I was aware of with the G400. I wonder, is this a mistake? I've ALWAYS used the MX510/518/G400 style mice, andn ever used a laser before...thats less an issue more so then the G500s quality and usability. Can anyone with both mice give me their thoughts?

IMO a huge downgrade. I have used the G500 and the G400, I have two of each because logitech support is pretty stupid. The G500 has the same inconsistent acceleration as other 9500 laser mice and it also has negative acceleration problems on cloth pads.
If you're somehow bad enough to the point where the accel doesn't bother you then you have to consider the weight and sensor position as well. Even without weights the G500 is decently heavier than the G400. The G500's sensor is positioned near the tip of the mouse which takes some time adapting to.
If all of that sounds like an upgrade then sure, Logitech did you a favor.

Hi, I owned both.
IMO the G500 is in every way better than the g400, except for the sensor. The fact that the sensor isnt centered didnt help on the g500, too.
If you dont mind having a flawed sensor (acceleration, not centered), then by all means keep the g500.
The shape is slightly different but it's also slightly better, imo. I also find it easier to grip since the coating on the side is more grippy, almost feel like sandpaper (it's not irritating). The scroll wheel, I find it to be really, really awesome.
And, while IMO the drivers suck, the mouse have on-board memory so you can just set your things, uninstall them and forget about it.
Basically if you're concerned about the quality of your tracking at low dpi (400-800, do 1600 quite well but 2m max speed) it's a mistake. If you're more concerned about the overall feel of the mouse and the features, you'll prefer the g500.

TBH I mostly play RTS, Indie games and the occasional RPG/Console port so acceleration isnt that much of a big deal. I choose to have a DA because I dont want of a 80$ with tons of DPI.
I personally think that EA is a bunch of scrubs so I'm not playing BF3. Same thing for COD. I do play the occasional CS match, too, and it's nice not to have accel, but for somebody that doesnt play FPS it might be better to have a better feel than no accel.
So IMO it have nothing to do with skill, only preference (better feel or better tracking?).

It was a downgrade. I had a g500 and went to a g400. The G500 has a poor quality sensor, The sensor is in a bad/poor location, low quality left and right click switch's, Its common for the Free wheel button to get stuck... over all its a poor mouse IMO.
There are a few down side's to the G400 though, some people are reporting that the switch's "rattle" on some button's.

I had a G9, then got a G500. I went back to G9 because G500 just wasn't cutting it for me. I got better score, k/d, etc on COD with my G9 for some reason.
