TV Tuner suggestions?

I've looked through a few threads and most of them talk about recording TV shows. Is there any way to get a tuner and just watch TV on my monitor? I'm getting rid of my TV because I turn it on maybe once in a blue moon, but I would still like the keep the option of watching cable open if I ever felt like it.

There are some cards for like $25 on Newegg and others for near $200. What exactly am I looking for?

Depends on a few things.

1. Do you have a cable box that you are keeping? (What company also)

2. Do you want or need a DVR type of function?

3. What kind of formats do you want to save in? (This will partly depend on resolution)

Cable box is in the front room, I'm just using a normal coaxial wall plug.
Company is Baja Broadband.

I didn't plan on recording anything, I just wanted to watch whatever was on. "Live" I guess is the best way to put it?

Then any tuner with Clear QAM will work for you. I would stay away from the USB ones mainly because I haven't had much luck with them. As far as a brands to look at I prefer Hauppauge and Diamond media. Most of them will have a DVR function to them but it isn't necessary for you. Just make sure it is W7 compatible or you will go crazy trying to make it work.

That should be fine. I had some trouble figuring out Baja's Clear QAM service. If you are getting channels to your tv without going through a cable box then you should be all set to go.
