So I am looking at getting a new board and want to do a multi-GPU setup at some point. I know the Formula will do triple GPU's with the PCIe slots at x8, x4, x4 and the Sniper will do x8, x8, x8, x8. But being that these both are PCIe 3.0 the x4 slots should be fine I would think. I have owned Asus boards, but never a Gigabyte board, so I need some opinions on both boards, particularly from owners running multi-GPU setups. Any thoughts from the community? Also, I plan on water cooling, which is why I am leaning towards the Formula.

If you want to watercool the motherboard I would go with the formula, because I'm almost certain the Gigabyte won't have waterblocks built for it. If you wanted to go over the top I would just get the V Extreme and bite the $100 so then you get performance and the known waterblock compatibility.
Cheers
for any board you end up with, I doubt the difference is that dramatic for multi-GPUs.

At huge resolutions, the difference between x8 and x16 is pretty significant if I recall correctly... I think I remember Callsignvega doing some benchmarks comparing x8 and x16.
Are you doing 4way or 3way SLi/ cfx?

Probably 3 way with three GTX680's. I have looked at Vega's setup and he does the Gigabyte which is one reason I am considering it, but I am use to Asus ROG boards and then there is the whole Shamino part, so I know the board is great. The thing I like about the Gigabyte is the green color scheme, kinda tired of the red/black, but I can live with it. Both boards are nice which is why it makes it a hard decision.

you cannot technically o 3-way SLI without at least 8x per slot. There is a hack to get it working on the formula and other boards like the UD5H.

PLX adds just a bit of latency which might matter some, but probably not when you're running 4x on the other board to begin with.
Tough choice...flip a coin or do what I sometimes do. Ask your girlfriend which one looks better and get that one lol.

The Sniper 3 has 4way sli and crossfire and better onboard sound, as well as better internet (e2200 chip), you like the colour scheme better.and it also has more sata and usb 3 ports, as well as dvi and VGA. On the.other hand, the formula has integrated wifi (sniper 3 has a pci-e card), the Waterblock on the mobo (although you'll have to use a certain tube size and clamps, because it doesn't have g 1/4in ports for some reason), the thunder FX would be better than either onboard sound if you chose to get that with it, and it has some of the nifty ROG features, as well as the cool stickers and stuff. I personally would go for the.sniper, but it's your choice, just weigh the pros and cons I guess.
