Gainward 6800GS Cooling - What to choose?

Thread Starter
Hello,

I have a Gainward 512MB 6800GS PCIe card installed. When playing Sniper Elite maxed out, the nVidia temp monitoring software shows that the temp regularly hits 125 degrees. It also crashes, somewhat expectedly at those temps. Which cooler is best to go for? I'm a complete novice with this stuff, so let's have some solid advice people!

Cheers loads

The Zalman VF-900 is the best. Also make sure that your cards heatsink is cleaned out and has no dust remnants in it. Try unmounting the front plate.

I will chime in as the only VF-900 opponent. I think this looks better, I will be getting one for my 6800 Ultra.

Howdy peeps,

Just to say a large thank you to the people that recommended the Zalman VF900 cooler for my 6800GS. My idle temp has now been reduced from 65C to 42C - that's astonishing! Haven't yet tried Sniper Elite again, but will do shortly.

Thanks again, all.

I had my old AGP 6600GT hitting 95 C with the stock cooler... I had it pushed pretty far, though.

What I forgot to mention is that I'm running this card in a P180 case with 5 x 120mm fans running flat-out. And my house is not a warm place. I can't fully understand why it gets so hot in there, but it does. Plenty of ventilation all around the case, plenty of fans sucking and a-blowing - who knows? Anyway, it's all lovely now.
