OCN Ducky Keyboard Won't Work with BIOS or UEFI?

Thread Starter
I'm having an issue with my OCN Ducky 9008G2 that I've had a bit over a year now. I recently built a new PC and found out that my keyboard doesn't work in a BIOS or UEFI.

The motherboards I've tested it on are my previous Asus P6T6 WS Revolution and my current Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe. Both of these boards recognize that a keyboard is connected during the POST screen (and oddly enough says two keyboards are recognized with the P8Z77-V Deluxe), both boards have USB enabled, and I've tried multiple USB ports on both boards (both 2.0 and 3.0). Nothing I do enables keystrokes by the Ducky to get recognized. I've tried four other cheap USB keyboards in my house and all of them work just fine in the BIOS and UEFI on both boards.

Do you guys have any tips? It's really annoying that I have to keep a $5 USB keyboard around my desk to do UEFI/BIOS level operations because my 20x more expensive keyboard doesn't work correctly. Thanks.

Hm now that is a really strange issue, I have never had issues using my dk1008 in the bios. My only suggestion would be to try using a usb-ps2 adapter(will also allow for full n key roll over, or at least it does on my dk 1008)

Unfortunately that won't do me any good as the Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe doesn't have a PS2 port.

Time to get a new Mainboard? mellowsmiley.gif

Actually, you might try to contact ASUS and see if they can get your UEFI updated to fix your issue. You'll have to call their Motherboard line which is long distance but whenever I have a problem with something like this or a BIOS not being stable I give them a call. They're generally pretty good about fixing the issue. Might take em some time since this is a Ducky we're talking about and not a cheap Logitech board, but they may be able to fix your issue as well as for the next piker to come along as well. smile.gif

If my keyboard had an issue with ONLY the P8Z77-V Deluxe or only the P6T6 WS Revolution I'd guess it was the motherboard, but since this keyboard is the only common point of failure between multiple boards it seems like the culprit.

While I don't have either of those boards around to test.

I do have a normal P8Z77 and a DK9008, DK9008G2, & DK9008 Shine; all of which work.

Like wise, they also work with the Sabertooth X58.

My suggestion would be to investigate updating the UEFI as that could be the issue. Like wise, if you can; test the board on another system. (Possibly with another brand of motherboard.)

Certain components of UEFI are shared between BIOS and the P8Z77 is running the latest UEFI firmware from Asus.

The reason your system picks up 2 keyboards on one of the boards, is because the DK9008G2 actually has a micro-controller built in which replicates the idea of multiple keyboards to the system so that you can use the keyboard on a USB connection but get a similar experience to NKRO which was only available on PS/2 ports previously.

The DK9008-G2 Pro models use a different micro controller which does not do this trick, so they should be picked up as a single keyboard though.

Sorry I was being facetious with the Motherboard. Meaning "no PS2?!? You need a new mainboard"... wink.gif

But after I started I went on to say something reasonable. I think that like Tot says it could be you need the latest UEFI update. It's new technology so it's not perfect yet. smile.gif

Updated to the latest UEFI and it still doesn't work frown.gif. Would you say it's safe to say that the issue is with my particular keyboard since your 9008G2 works fine with your P8Z77-V series motherboard? I also tried a new USB cable on the keyboard in case that was the issue. What can I do from here? I assume OCN keyboards don't carry any warranty.

I have the same issue with my Ducky keyboard as well. I also have the ASUS P8Z77 motherboard line. I have the P8Z77-V Pro and I cannot access BIOS with my Ducky. I used another keyboard, and it worked fine.

The NKRO "trick" probably was never tested by the BIOS/UEFI manufacturer and may be the crux of the problem.

Tricks often QUACK something.
