OCCT shows millions of errors

I was hoping some of you could confirm whether or not this is normal, and whether I should be worried:

When running OCCT (4.3.1), the GPU test shows no errors if I leave the computer and just let it run. But the second I use the mouse to select any windows other than the OCCT window, the frame rate showing for the GPU drops from 100 to anywhere between 16 and 30. Then it eventually ramps back up if I select the OCCT window again. If I move the OCCT window in any way, OCCT apparently detects hundreds of thousands of errors, and continues to do so until I end the test.

The GPU is set at stock settings. It's a GTX 480 with Nvidia's Windows 8 drivers. CPU is an intel i5 2500K overclocked to 4.5 GHz and is stable.

My bet. Its something to do with windows 8. Not sure OCCT has support for it yet.

Generally if your getting that many errors, its memory issues, GPU memory. The way it sounding as you described, to me it sounds like more like CPU system than anything GPU related...

Why do you think it's a problem with the CPU? I've tested the CPU extensively with the Intel Burn Test and Prime, and both have not shown any problems.

I think this might have something to do with the way Windows prioritizes resources regarding which windows are active, but I'm not sure. Does this not happen on Windows 7 (not the errors, but the frame rate drop)?

Sounds like an issue with power states and the transition between 2D and 3D clocks, could also be Windows' DWM, like you suspect.

I get similar frame rate drops with OCCT 4.x on my systems, but not the errors. The newer versions of OCCT don't seem to maintain priority unless the window is in focus, which makes it impossible to use for extended tests unless you do nothing else with the system.

I still use OCCT 3.1.0 more, as it's artifact scanner seems to be just as good, if not better, at finding errors, but doesn't need to be in focus.

Slightly similar issue here, was using the previous version of OCCT for ages, and my setup passed with flying colours. After updating to the newer OCCT, it fails miserably in about a minute flat, using large data set, even though it still passes with other stress programs, and the previous version, at the same settings?!

Maybe the latest incarnation of OCCT is borked slightly??

Are you talking about the CPU stress test? I haven't seen anything wrong with this.

It's very possible the test was updated to be more stressful, or to use new instruction sets. I wouldn't dismiss the errors without further investigation.

I just flat out wouldn't use OCCT. I know some people like it, and honestly, I used to use it all the time for my 560, but now with my 580, the power draw on OCCT is just TOO much and I don't see any benefit to OCCT. I know my overclock is bad just by running heaven3.0 and it'll just driver crash.

I ran OCCT on my 7870 durin 40 minuts, and it was about 62°C with fan 100% and take in mind that my case is as cool as a fan, also I saw that in gpu test never gave me errors at 1200 core =/
