A GPU can produce errors/corruption way before a driver crash/reset is prompted, and at much lower clocks than than those at which artifacts become visible to the eye.
I have the same standards of stability for my GPUs as I do my CPUs, so seeming sorta maybe stable for a few hours of a game is no where near good enough. All the GPUs and OCs/cooling I use can run OCCT, or any other conceivable test, indefinitely, without issue, and I wouldn't tolerate any less.
