Ivy Bridge 3770k De-lid, Liquid Pro & AS 5 Tested. Amazing Results!!!.......

First of all, thanks to everybody who shared their experience for overclocking, especially for you guys who de-lided your IVB.

I definitely not a silicon lottery winner, my i7 3770k originally can only stable at

4.5 ghz with 1.28v, LL2, Tubro +0.04 in BIOS, where CPU-Z shows 1.256v under full load.

And IBT gave 94C max during a very high 10 run test, similar result 95C was given by Prime 95 latest version. This is with AS5 applied between CPU and Cooler.

My cooler is Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2, which I believe is a good air cooler, maybe not the best.

After read thousands of thread from this form, it is seems proved that Intel did a very bad job with TIM used for IVB.

So, I decide to de-lid my 3770k which was indeed very risky and made me so nervous. After 20 mins fighting with a paper cut, the lid was taken off with one obvious scratch on the base, which some cooper staff can be found. Luckily the CPU didn't get damaged. biggrin.gif:D

Applying TIM is definitely not as easy as I thought directly on die, especially I didn't glue the HIS back and just use the motherboard locker to fix it. I even got a small dent on my HIS when I dropped the HIS onto motherboard by accident mad.gifmad.gif

At the time I did this, only available TIM at home was AS5, so I got no choice.

After applied AS5 on both die and HIS, it gave me a unbelievable temp under Prime and IBT test, 80C is the MAX!!!!biggrin.gif:D:D:D

After two days of break-in period, similar results from both test, so I guess 80C is the final figure for me after change from intel TIM + AS5 to AS5 +AS5

14C is a great great achievement already, but many people keep sharing their great experience with Liquid Pro and I can't resist.

When I received Liquid Pro yesterday, after another 1 hr project. I finally got my TIM changed to Liquid Pro both on die and HIS.

One thing I have to say is, Liquid pro is not as hard as i think to apply but its definitely very very annoying to clean, as I did twice on die, it take me quite a while to clean. Also, no glue on HIS means easy to slide.

Overall, I didn't think i did a great job on Liquid pro application, especially the HIS slide a bit when I try to lock the CPU.

However, when I first turn on my PC and did a IBT test without close my case, the result is shocking !!!!!!!!!!!

65C MAX !! biggrin.gif:D:D:D

One night after, with all same setting as before, case closed of course.

I got 66C MAX !!!!!

So, 94C to 66C, 28C difference. i still can't believe what I saw.

What's next, maybe I should try 4.7ghz now biggrin.gif:D, 4.7ghz is stable with AS5 + AS5, 1.38v LL2 in BIOS, CPU-Z 1.356V, but the temp is over 96, so maybe I can achieve 4.7ghz with lower temp and hopefully lower votalge now thumb.gifthumb.gif
Update: 1.38 in bios is not enough, might need 1.4

Thanks a lot everyone thumb.gif

very nice, i will try this probably too with my 3570K... just need to save some money for backup if things go wrong. (btw, i've allso hit only 4.5GHz @1.288v with 90°C)

Congrats man, thats an amazing result. Its known that liquid metal has a big advantage over others, if applied corectly. It does have it setbacks, but you already voided your warrenty so ur not risking anything anymore (which is totally bada$$).

Anyway, you have the chance to go after a higher overclock, and probably switch your cooler to a better one, and shave off a few degrees too.

Sure, at work at moment, can only do it later. However, for previous result, I think I only kept the AS5 +AS5 but not the original intel one as a screenshot.

Sometimes I'm very very old fashioned, so I kept notes on note book for all test, I will try to take a picture and share with everyone later, just for fun biggrin.gif

Just in case if people interest, my motherboard is ASRock Z77 fatal1ty pro, don't think its that good at OC, especially for RAM.

I got this board because I need 10 SATA port and two network port without expansion card.

A.

True, actually I did purchase intel insurance or whatever they called, as I thought I would never de-lid my CPU and just run it at 4.5ghz with 94C and get changed when its break smile.gif

But now, that intel insurance is already a waste for me, unless I'm buying another 3770k, which is highly unlikely mad.gif
