Help my i7 920 c0 get to 3.8-4ghz

Thread Starter
Hey guys, just got my 920 under water, and I want to get it to 3.8-4.0ghz with decent voltage.
I've done some overclocking in the past, but followed this guide to see if I was doing anything wrong: http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/rmp_i7_920_overclocking

This is what I'm running right now:
TkL9b.jpg

Temps aren't a problem, as you can see, so I can push some more voltage if I need to.

I haven't tried lowering the voltage at 3.6ghz, but 3.8ghz isn't quite stable at 1.4v with my current BIOS settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

most c0's dont need 1.4 for 4.0ghz, you're going to need to get your qpi and uncore tuned before you can get a good baseline overclock..

QPI Link Speed 36X
Uncore Frequency 16X

this might be labeled differently if your bios, but once you set that i'm sure you'll be stable with 1.4v from 4.0ghz to 4.2 i bet.

Do you have any idea of what the Uncore Frequency could possibly be called?

Ask if you have any questions.
Is there a benefit from using 21x multi over 20x?
And I assume that I would set the ram to 1333, since that's what my ram is rated it.

Ah, okay. I've been using 20x.
I shall report back in about 1.5 hours.

Thanks

Okay, I've set all of the options that you've specified, and It's BSODing while loading Windows.
Also, my LLC has four options: Auto, no calibration, 50% calibration, and full calibration. I tried with auto and full, same result. I even bumped the voltage up to 1.35v to no avail.

Here are my BIOS settings:
G2dsm.jpg

BIlkv.jpg

tToGw.jpg

And this is the BSOD code that I'm getting:
sZRlv.jpg

Any ideas?

I'm on a 920 D0 and I have to use a lot more voltage on the QPI.
CPU Voltage............................[1.35]
QPI/DRAM Core Voltage..................[1.356]

But If that was the issue then you should get 0xD1 or 0x0A. As far as I know the only way to fix 0x101 is to ramp up the vcore. One thing you can try is to use a 19x multiplier and BCLK of 211. For me this had the best stability on the CPU but did give me a hard time getting the RAM stabile hence the big bump in the QPI/DRAM Core Voltage.

Edit: By the way you should read the OCN guide http://www.overclock.net/t/538439/guide-to-overclocking-the-core-i7-920-or-930-to-4-0ghz its one of the best ones out there.
