[mozilla] Firefox 15 plugs the add-on leaks

Quote:
Firefox 15 prevents most memory leaks caused by add-ons, including Firebug. For many users with add-ons installed this will significantly reduce Firefox’s memory consumption, without requiring upgrades to those add-ons.

For those users, Firefox 15 is likely to be faster (sometimes drastically so) and less likely to crash, especially if they have multiple add-ons installed and/or keep Firefox running for a long time between restarts.

This is great news. I have had to bring up the task manager to end the FlashPlayerPlugin 11.3 r300 process quite a few times lately. I'm the kind of user that has several tabs open, and I put my computer in and out of sleep mode for several days, so I only shut it down a few days per week.

Phew! Excellent. Add-ons are a great asset to FF, and decreasing the memory usage (esp. of FlashPlayerPlugin, seriously...) is going to be wonderful.

I bet you are completely wrong. Especially here on OCN, where people reboot their computers several times after having cleaned their previous graphics drivers and to test different overclocks in the BIOS. Not to mention Windows updates and some programs that require a restart after having been installed.

In my case, I actually try to restart more often than I did because the Adobe program that checks for updates to Flash only works at boot, so if I don't reboot I miss out on the updates and patches that improve the overall experience. And in any case, a restart with an SSD as a boot drive doesn't take that long, so it's actually beneficial from time to time, especially now that you don't incur in a massive delay, cpu usage and memory usage when you chose to Restore the Previous Session in Firefox, as it does not reload all the tabs any more, only reloading each one as you select it.

Sure when people are doing maintenance and such they restart several times, but that doesn't happen during everyday usage. When I go on a driver update spree I restart like 20 times, but I don't do that every day.

Just curious, what's your boot time with that 320?

I shut my PC down all the time. I'd say a minimum of once a day if I'm not folding or running something else overnight.

And shutting down won't help you at all in this instance, my flash plugin crashes all the time if I'm watching streams or videos.

I just tested it, it takes around 50 seconds, but bear in mind that the Bios on X79 motherboards (at least Asus ones) takes a long time to boot. In my case it takes around 25 seconds.

I think they mean memory leaks in extensions like Adblock Plus, not plugins like Flash.
