And I don't think it would really be worth it to remove WiFi, but I guess you could always run a small USB-stick WiFi adapter instead, if you do happen to run into this.

that's fine, I don't have a wireless router in my house anyways, after it went out, I currently jsut use cat5 cable plugged into a 5 port CAT5 hub, that's connected to my modem for my internet.

ahh ok, upon further research I have figured what I need to do to make this work great!

I installed AID64, checked my PCI express controller ports.

According to multiple users from various webstes, running x1 is a huge bottle neck for some games that require alot of bandwith from the pci express x1 slot. So in order to alliviate that bottlenecking issue, I need to remove the devices from either port 1 ad 2, or 3 and 4 to free up sace to run a x2 pcie setup.

PCI-E 2.0 x1 port #1 In Use @ x1 (Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter)

PCI-E 2.0 x1 port #2 In Use @ x1 (Broadcom 802.11n Wireless Network Adapter)

PCI-E 2.0 x1 port #3 In Use @ x1 (Realtek RTS5208 PCI-E Card Reader)

PCI-E 2.0 x1 port #4 In Use @ x1 (NEC uPD720200 USB 3.0 Host Controller)

I'm stuck with a dillema.... I need to sacrifice my card reader and USB 3.0 ports, to be able to run x2 pci bandwith frown.gif

Let us know if you get it working, I've been curious about this for quite sometime now. I would ditch the card reader and just carry around a small USB card reader instead. Oh, and also, since you're trying to game on a laptop not necessarily suited for it in its current state, you should try out Onlive, if you haven't already. I was very surprised with how well the service works, as well as the games they have on hand. You can demo most of the games for free, if you are curious. You just have to register (for free) on Onlive, and download their client thingy. I mean, I was playing Dirt 3 and Batman : AA on my Atom n570+Intel 3150 netbook. And since my screen is only 10.1", it actually looked quite nice. Would be like watching a 720p YouTube video, depending on how fast your connection is, could be better or worse. It dynamically scales to your current connection speed I believe. Anyway, try it out if you haven't. It won't replace having an actual GPU, even if running at 50-60% of it's potential in a desktop setup, but might still be an option to consider.

I had totally frgot about services such as those... They sound even more logical then trying to do what i'm doing, as a gamer tongue.gif

anyhow, I just know that in the near future, upgrading a laptop, or building a laptop ect.... modding a laptop ect... could be cheaper, efficient, just like building a desktop, and swapping parts out and stuff heh.

You are only going to be able to get PCI-E x1 speeds out of this: http://www.harmonicinversion.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=193&category_id=25&vmcchk=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=28 regardless of what you take out of the machine, it only supports that speed.

Also, there should be a slot for it on the side of the laptop, what is the exact model number of your machine? dv7 7187cl doesn't seem to exist. There should be a sticker on the bottom.

In short, you shouldn't have to take anything apart, and you are only going to get x1 speeds due to the limitations of that particular adapter. As far as I know, the ExpressSlot only gets one PCI-E lane, and there probably isn't any way to change that, meaning you are only going to ever be able to get x1 out of anything like this. You might be able to free up a lane or two by removing some stuff, i'm just not certain of that. That's quite likely PCI-E 2.0 though, so it'll be a little better.

If you are able to do so, there is this: http://www.harmonicinversion.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=1&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=191&vmcchk=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=6 which has a full x16 connector, but that still doesn't mean it'll just work at full speed. I would start with emailing HP support and asking them.
