Outa's Big Ass Water Pipe

Thread Starter
I've been having some thoughts for water cooling and have looked at some pretty cool ones, but I don't like double loop's in one computer, ill include a rough picture of what I was going for and wanted input from other people.

W8Inz.jpg

It is a very extended system, but i think if i where going to go water-cooled, everything will be water cooled.

Pretty much it goes like this...

Reservoir > Pump > CPU >140mm Radiator > 4 slot RAM block > 140mm Radiator > 140mm Radiator (another just to help) > GPU > 140mm Radiator > GPU > 140mm Radiator > Reservoir

Reservoir*
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/8584

Cpu block*
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16247

I'm having a little problem finding full blocks for the GTX 560 cards, if anyone could help it would be great.

I would be using 1/2 inch tubes
All connections would be compression fittings
not sure what pump to use

Give me your input!

Thanks!

To me, 1/2 in tubing just makes sense if you're looking for the most volume and flow potential available as well as have a case to support it. I thought about 3/8" but honestly, the 1/2" really seems like the way to go. You have a good setup.

For your GTX-560, Danger Den has a really nice design one, and I have chosen DD for my 3 GTX-480's in SLI:
http://www.dangerden.com/store/dd-gtx560-copper-base-with-smoke-acrylic-top.html

Keep the cost low and go with some Fat Boy 1/2" fittings and put a clamp or worm drive on them, either way it will work well and be less than 1/3 of the cost of normal.

For your 3 140mm RAD's up top that's gonna create a lot of restriction when it has to go through 6 fittings. If you're wanting to stick with the 3.140, go with something like the Phobya G Changer 420:
http://www.aquatuning.us/product_info.php/info/p9270_G-Changer-420.html

Only two ports, less restriction, and an excellent cooling option that will give better flow and potentially better cooling.

I haven't personally done a watercooled rig myself so I won't comment too much, but when I was really looking into WC one thing that I learned is that you don't have to put a radiator before every heat generating object. While it seems that you wouldn't want the same "hot" water cooling your CPU and GPUs one right after the other, in reality, the temperature of your water is very similar whether it is right after all those parts, or right out of a radiator. If an experienced WCer could step in to corroborate/dispute this statement, I would be much obliged.

I mention this not because it's bad to do what you're doing, but not putting that restriction on yourself will allow for a much cleaner build with less of a tubing catastrophe. Go to the watercooling thread and take a gander at some of the other 800d's in there (there are trillions) so you can get an idea of whats the nicest way to run your loop.

edit:
Also, commonly regarded as a very reliable and powerful pump is the Swiftech/Laing MCP655. If you are paranoid and want redundancy, a cool option would be that in conjunction with a Swiftech Apogee Drive II Cpu block with integrated pump (the pump is a Swiftech/Laing MCP35 if I recall correctly, which is also a well liked pump)

I like 3/8 tubing better...It's less collapse-prone.
I think the Raystorm is better and cheaper than that block.

This is essentially true, the radiator will not suddenly and magically make your water cool the second it comes out. Over the course of the components building heat it creates an equilibrium within your loop that distributes the heat throughout all components. The more radiator, the better cooling. The more flow, the better cooling potential. The less restriction, the better flow. But yes you are correct. The only way it would be different is if you had the line going through an air conditioner.....

or used Schmuckley's bong.

One fairly large spanner to throw in the works; without modding you can't fit three 140mm radiators in the top of the 800D, even sideways.

You can fit one 420mm rad (3*140mm), but not three individual rads. The reason is that the sides of the individual rads (screw hole to edge) are wider than the usual fan spacing for 140mm fans (16mm).
Example drawing (Click to show)
MCR240-QP-DIM.jpg
Swiftech 240 (2*140mm rad)

145.6-125 = 20.6mm from hole to edge to hole (rads alongside each other)
Fan spacing = 16mm

You will be roughly 4mm out.

Given your layout I would route it like this:
Res > Pump > Lower 140 > GPU2 > GPU1 > Rear 140 > CPU > RAM > 420 rad > Res

That way you are minimising the tubing length and putting a rad before each major component (not that it matters much).

As for pumps - you are going to need a DDC type pump for that loop (MCP355 / 35x), or possibly dual pumps. That will be better than a single D5.
