Yeah, it doesn't have to look good, you can always use longer tubing runs and hide the rad box. Also, materials would not be too expensive. I priced it out for one to fit under my Switch and it was $31.87 after tax, though I already own a jigsaw, drill, drill press, miter saw, belt sander, and hole saws (and of course a Dremel).
Finish would not be difficult, just some sand paper, a can of Krylon, and a can of clear coat. Sand, spray, sand, spray, spray, wetsand. But not an issue if you don't care about looks.
I just don't like the idea of my radiators being out in the open, and with a custom rad box you don't even have any external exposed tubing.
