AMD FX 4100 build - Page 5

Not really low end but just not one of the highly recommended. I've never had a biostar or even seen one in person. But i've seen alot of people had great luck with them.

I guess any brand is fine, just dont get the low end boards of that brand. Like i did with one of my gigabyte boards when it blew up. I have a huge black mark on my cpu heatsink and the copping pipes from it today.

Biostar is a pretty good brand IMHO and the boards they make are of good quality. Back in my Intel days, i used a low-end P4M890-M7 SE with my Core 2 Duo E4500 for 5 years. The chip was at 3.6Ghz (up from 2.2Ghz) @ 1.58v 24/7. The TDP shot up to 166W(and the board was rated at 95W). Ultimately the PSU blew out (it was a generic one) and took the board with it frown.gif. The chip survived though.

Biostar has made awsome boards for Intel but they really let the ball down on the AMD side

I have to agree with my experience being biased but again I can only say what I've had happen with my board. If you've had good luck with yours I would expect you to suggest it, which in it's own way is a form of bias but for, not against Biostar and that's not unreasonable.

Since forever from what I've seen around the web. Biostar isn't considered a rock-bottom brand but was never considered tops either. Back in the good 'ol days of Socket A these carried the nickname of "Deathstar" MB's for their tendency to snuff it compared to others. Another noteable along these lines was the Korbin or as it was called a "Kobain" board since those always seemed to die an early death. whistle.gif
You don't see any of these around anymore period.

I can't help what happened here with mine or what's been said in the past, I just know a Biostar over the course of history is not known for being top grade and although they have made improvements over time, they still have a long way to go but it's not like they aren't trying - Can't say that.
I know guys that won't touch anything MSI, even their GPU's simply due to past experience with MSI stuff and I won't blame them if they never do inspite of my experiences with MSI GPU's, all of which have been good so far.
