Soda spilled in my CM Storm Pro.

So I had this keyboard since April and last night, one my kids went to my desk and knock my glass of soda off and it went everywhere. I didn't see it its what my wife told me. She immediately unplugged it. I got as much out as I could and let it set for a few hours. At this point only one key does not work the period ( . ) key. Other than that I have some sticky keys more towards the num pad where the drink was at. So, this is my dilemma, its 3 months old and practically destroyed. I highly doubt it if I cleaned it the best I could, it would RMA. So should I open it up and she how bad it is and clean it up....would I have to solder a new switch on that doesn't work?

Did you take the keys out and cleaned everything with something like rubbing alcohol is what I would use, since water would probably corrode it.

About RMA, if the soda isn't visible you could try tricking them into fixing/replacing it, but if they find soda stains inside they probably won't accept it.

The RMA thing is never gonna work. If you insured with a company like Squarespace you'd be good. So if all else fails try the above link.

Yeah that would work, but I'm pretty sure all the soldering and contacts would corrode from the water. I say use something that won't risk corrosion and just wash it out with it and let it dry.

Ok, so I said screw it and took it apart, it had some stains all the way to the bottom, not too bad, but I have been cleaning it with alcohol pads and rubbing alcohol with Q-tips. I had used the soaked Q-tip to squeeze some alcohol down into the the affected switches cause they were pretty bad, but they are getting better. Some have a little resistance than normal and some stick still. Here are some pics and in the video I show the sound difference from ones that are not affected to ones that are after one cleaning.

So should I just keep doing what I am doing or is there something else I should try? The switches are solder on, so that would be a pain to replace.

take the rubbing alcohol and put it in a spray bottle and spray it in the switches on a stream setting. let soak for a few min, then use compressed air to blow it out. you might have to do it a few times to get it all back right. then let it sit in front of a fan for about 24 hrs so you know everything is dry inside and put it back together.

open her up and toss into the dishwasher. Sounds crazy you say? Well do you want it to get clean or not? wink.gif

Seriously though, it works.

I'm not here to be your moral compass, but if you destroyed the keyboard there should be no reason to RMA it. If you own the keyboard, own the accident as well.
