Rampage IV Extreme board owners question - 1 Stick off RAM, can it go in any slot? - Page 3

When I tested my memory issues on my past RiVE board, I discovered that in order to use only one DIMM you can only use slot A1, otherwise the system won't post. However, if you use the slot 1, you can put memory in any other slots in addition with it.

Pissy cpu more like, and stubborn imc lol.

Anyways I've run 32gb of Samsung but had to do it with a lot of volts at 1866. 1600 on the other hand is real easy. This is with a 5ghz overclock. 16gb on the other hand will run 2133 easy and 2400 with some elbow grease.

Thread Starter
Just to put a happy ending wink.gif on this thread. Please to say my RMA'ed RAM was accepted by overclockersuk.co.uk and they were quick at sending me another 8gb. I now have 32GB installed, time to RAMCache and RAMDisk and RAM the miss thumb.gif

But I wouldn't want to be overclocking by SB-E on any other board.

The X79 platform is a great platform, my P9X79 Pro works awesomely with 32GB or with the 64GB I tested it with before I decided I didn't want to spend that much money on RAM yet.

The Rampage VI Extreme is a great board, you just need to be careful with the RAM you put in it. If it's not a matched quad-channel set certified for the board (unmatched can work, but you better know what you're doing and you're still taking a gamble), or in the OP's case a bad DIMM, you're SOL. Yes there are bad boards, but you get that with every manufacturer, Asus less so than many I can name because they use a high quality process with more layers on the board.

Memory Slots:

The RIVE is exactly the same as my P9X79 as far as memory slot population goes, I've checked both manuals.

1 stick: D1
2 sticks: B1 + D1
4 sticks: A1 + B1 + C1 + D1
6 sticks: above + B2 + D2
8 sticks: I hope you can figure this out for yourself smile.gif
