I forgot about Secure Erase.  That would be the best.

DBAN (Darik's Boot And Nuke)

Does DBAN work for SSDs what with wear leveling and all that stuff?

I don't know yet.  I just know that it's been recommended before when selling a drive because it actually deletes the data.

However, Secure Erase was recommended before my post, and Secure Erase is probably a better way to go.

Doing a secure erase or simply wiping your data will wear on your SSD, no matter what. It'll have to delete everything, overwrite it, and then delete it. It's not like the longevity will drop 10 years, but a day at max. While DBAN may do it in another way, it will still wear on your SSD, I'm just not sure how much.

I'd say the longevity will probably drop by about 1 minute by doing this.  I mean, SSDs have come a very long way since the JMicron days (before Indilinx).

DBAN doesn't do anything but waste write cycles. Also, after you run DBAN, performance of your drive will be far far less than what it should be until garbage collection can do its thing.

Use secure erase. www.overclock.net/t/1227597/how-to-secure-erase-your-solid-state-drive-ssd-with-parted-magic

Figured this would be the case. So that's a big NO on DBAN for SSDs (and I reckon other flash-based media where the controller does wear leveling).
