How fast can YOU type? - Page 18

Colemak on a standard rubber dome keyboard. It's been a couple months since I've switched, and I'm already at double my old Qwerty speed of 70 WPM, but that was only with four fingers.

I should really learn to touch type, at the moment I use two fingers to type (apart from spacebar and non-letter characters) thumb.gif

My adjusted speed was only 53 frown.gif

Considering I spend the majority of my day behind a keyboard, I was actually suprised at how slow I type frown.gif

Razer Tarantula

I can't touch type though, had to memorize the text. I think that's actually more realistic since I usually know what to write, so I don't have to touch type to read at the same time.

Hey, I am trying to learn to type much faster. Right now I am on average between 50-60 wpm and would like some tips from you 100+ typing pros. Right now I am just practicing using typeracer.com for speed, but there are two problems I think are making me cause A LOT of trouble.
1) I do not use my pinky for typing at all.
2) Since I do not use my pinky, I am having to over extend my right ring finger to things such as P, or delete, or anything on the right side of the keyboard. This means they my 'bearings' are lost when I have to move my right hand so far over to the right side. Then I start to mistype a lot because I have my hand misplaced, its not "centered". My average accuracy rate is around 90ish%
3) I do not use the conventional fingers for certain buttons. I seem to use mostly pointer, middle, and ring finger for almost EVERTYHING (except left shift, never use right shift).

Any tips, or at least point to me somewhere that would tell/teach me how to improve my skills. I don't want to keep practicing if I am just furthering my bad habits. Plus, I still don't have the board completely memorized in my head, its mostly just muscle memory (if that makes sense).
