Intel DX79SR Will Not Post CPU Diagnostic LED Flashed Red

Thread Starter
I am putting together by new build and I am not able to get the board to post.

The first thing that is weird is it will attempt to power on as soon as power is provided from the power supply without any power puttons being pressed. I even unpulgged the power and reset switches and it still attempts to power up as soon as you plug it in.

If I leave it plugged in it will reset every few seconds over and over again. The CPU Diagnostic LED flashes red when it turns on and when it resets. The post code display shows 69 before it resets. There are no beeps from the speaker.

I am using an Intel 3960X CPU, which I have already removed and re-installed with the same issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

There should be a clear cmos buton on board by your keyboard/mouse ps2 plugin, do you have the motherboard book?

The "back to bios" button didn't do anything. Here is something weird though, in the quick reference guide that comes with the mobo it says if there is no jumper for the bios configuration jumper settings then it is in "recovery mode" and there should be a jumper in 1-2 for normal operaton, but the mobo did not come with any jumpers either installed or spares. Could this be the problem?

Power the system up. Then shut it down and remove the cmos battery. Reach around to the back and turn your psu switch off. Then press the power switch and if it was done right the fans and leds and all will spin up for just a second. Then restore the battery and turn the psu back on and turn the system back on and see if it will post now.

There is really no way to tell what BIOS it shipped with, but if your CPU is a C2 stepping it may not have a compatible BIOS. Intel seems to be really bad with that, ironically. Their boards will not even POST so you can flash the BIOS, you would have to find someone with an original C1 3960X or 3930K to flash it, or RMA it to get it updated.

The Jumper was the problem. I went to the local PC store and purchased some jumpers. When I put one in the 1-2 position it now posts successfully. thumb.gif
