The XFX black edition HD7850 has 2 x6 pin connectors and the PCB looks identical to XFX HD7870.

Not sure if it can unlock but I would try to flash it if I had one.

I have the XFX 7850 and it is indeed the same PCB XFX sells on their 7870. As for flashing it's bios with a 7870 bios, I am not going to try. I'd rather just leave it as-is and not brick the 260 bucks I paid.

Well, I just tested the XFX 7870 bios on my XFX 7850 and unfortunately it did not unlock the extra shaders. All it did was bump voltage from 1.075v to 1.218v. This is a good news because I will not have to use Sapphire TriXX which was giving me trouble as I won't have to bump voltage (1.218v is a great voltage to get nice overclock on a 7850), and I can stick to MSI Afterburner (didn't let me overvolted my card, only TriXX did). So far everything runs great, I'll stick to this bios. thumb.gif

EDIT: Switched back to my stock bios. Temps jumped by 10C at idle, idle voltage was slightly higher and memory would stay at 1200mhz. Don't even try it, you'll waste your time. Guess I'll have to get used to TriXX and its bugs.

Good to see somebody do this and I think it would work out well if done with a water block.
