[PCG] The War Z announced: zombie survival shooter-MMO with strong parallels to Day Z

Well, that didn’t take long. Someone’s announced a persistent survival shooter-MMO set in a zombie apocalypse. It has permadeath (as an optional “Hardcore Mode”). It has PvP and PvZ folded into the same experience. It has a hunger mechanic. It has a dude in a baseball cap. The War Z is undeniably inspired by Day Z, one of the best things to happen on the PC this year. But before you load your cynicism guns with copycat bullets, I wonder: is that really a bad thing?

Here’s a breakdown of features, taken verbatim from the press release:

Cool. Haven't tried Day Z yet though myself, but these have looked like pretty cool games.

I'm at work so I can't see the source link. Is this still running off of Arma 2? It seems to be, I really hope it is. There are some problems with DayZ I feel, if they can change the zombies up a bit that would be awesome (I know some people like the way they are, I personally don't). Also the different map will be a nice and refreshing change.

Yeah same here . Although I watched like a dozen lets plays of Day Z , and was a little put off by the big fields , coastal areas and beaches ( I know it is a map in ARMA or something ) . This one looks like it will take place in a city or a crowded area .

If they make this mostly city I think that would be amazing, however, I doubt that will happen. Most of the action happens in cities and other relevant places such as the airstrip/military bases. They will also have a big win if you can go into a lot more of the buildings. It's asking for a lot but I'm optimistic.

The game’s being developed by Hammerpoint Interactive, a new developer. According to Sergey Titov, Executive Producer, they began development last fall. “The major difference is that DayZ is a fantastic mod for a hardcore military simulation game,” Hammerpoint Interactive Senior Game Designer Eric Nordin says in an interview with IGN about the game. “We are creating a standalone game, with the entire world designed around a zombie apocalypse, so that players feel completely immersed in that environment.

From the source .

Finally. Getting sick of Day-z's hundreds of problems/bugs. Looking forward to something a lot more polished.

Yeah, was just reading this. Another member on another forum I go on is part of the development team making this game. Looking forward to this for sure! I am happy that it is a 1 time purchase and purchasing ingame money will just do things that wont unbalance the game.

the problem with DayZ, is that it's a mod.. sure it's got developer support, and some updates, but if the game experience was designed around a zombie MMO, it would be a little bit better..
enter War Z.
all i can say is, bring it on!
