AMD would have done the same thing had they been able to. The goal of a business is to make the most amount of money and kill off your competition.
If it wasn't a law no one would be complaining. They would just be saying what a great move Intel made.

It's anti-competitive and that's what people frown upon.

While true, he's absolutely right. We live in a world of revisionist history where people today basically still say stuff like "Well I'm glad Intel bribed companies to use them, Why would I want computer with a slow CPU??" Even though, the few, well informed people who remember know that AMD raped Intel like no one's business!!!! BUT was still getting outsold like crazy because of the illegal business practices that won Intel so much more market share that no amount of fines would ever truly be enough to compensate AMD and forever set them back.

Intel did the right thing as a business, and I despised them for it for a long time but guess what? Check out my sig rig, and that says it all. At some point you have to be a smart consumer, I wasn't willing to buy an inferior product for my uses (BD) than spend LESS and get a vastly better platform (again for my uses).

But hey!! In ten years if things go this way Intel will be the only CPU maker for enthusiast parts while AMD will be dominating the HTPC/laptop market with their APU's.

It isn't "illegal", it IS ILLEGAL. The fact that the only way Intel could make a sale at that time was by doing this is simply pathetic. Make a better product. Don't screw the consumer over with your inferior crap because your hurt. Your basicaly saying that you support that Intel wanted a monopoly and that you would not be upset at all to watch their competition disapear from the market. Do you have any idea what that would do to inovation and prices? You would end up paying a large premium because you simply had no other choice and Intel could take their sweet time with releases slowing down progress. Bravo on your ignorance man. The arguement that AMD would have done it if Intel didn't is meaningless. There simply is no proof behind a statement like that. They had a good deal of money at that time, while not as much as Intel, they were not hurting until this happend. AMD played by the rules while Intel tried to force them out of the market because their product was being destroyed in performance. Intel should have taken that money and dumped it into their R&D to make a better product, at least then I would respect them.

AMD has proved over and over that they don't lower themself the way Intel and this last few years is proff they have a cpu that underperforms you don't see them buying off manufactures to push a lower performing cpu instead they layed out a plan to pull up to and outperform Intel and it started with BD then Piledriver then steamroller and then Exavator all of this on a whole new platform keep up the good work AMD thumb.gif

Honestly I'm tired of all the haters.

My 1100T @ 3925mhz runs ALL Dolphin emulator games, on absolutely maxed out settings, AND in 3D vision. Something others would have you disbelive -- especially on the Dolphin forums. Same for PS2 emulator -- all games maxed. My Q6600 can't even run MGS3 on pcsx2 -- my 1100T runs it 60 fps. It runs Civ 5 at 60 fps contsant in 3d Vision.

Unfortunately as many have said, they should have just continued the PH2 line til Piledriver was ready, and scrapped BD altogether. Remember the BD release was delayed 6 months. Had it come out in september as originally intended, things would be different. Piledriver would have released months ago -- perhaps even BEFORE Ivy Bridge.

All the delays causes by Bulldozer literally set AMD back roughly A YEAR and a year in the PC market, let alone the enthuasist PC market, is obviously a huge length of time.

Bulldozer wasn't delayed its development was frozen in 2008. It then taped out in 2010 after it was unfrozen and didn't get into the channel till September in 2011.

Bulldozer/Piledriver 2009 / 2011 architectures
Steamroller/Excavator 2013 / 2015 architectures

but everything was accelerated once the development was unfrozen.
2011 bd/ 2012 pd/ 2013 sr/ 2014 xv

(X aimed at Y)
Bulldozer -> Nehalem/Westmere
Piledriver -> Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge
Steamroller -> Haswell/Broadwell
Excavator -> Skylake/Skymont

Bulldozer is 100% Intel

Willamete (P68) branched off into two developments which led to:
-> Nehalem (P7)
-> Bulldozer (P7)

Well, just wondering what you guys think now since Trinity has been released, and the FX series have had a new series of chips released? Personally I love my A8-3870k. It's not the fastest cpu in the universe, but I knew this going in, and I had a tight budget anyway.
