Wow. This isn't news. Its marketing. Welcome to 2012.

P.S.> You just fed their machine. Which seems to be the opposite of your intent.

All I got from the original article is that they thought it was very scary so they added co-op so you can play it with a friend and it won't as bad. I didn't get "too scary" from it at all.

What I actually read was: "We're adding co-op as an excuse to try and force this game to be Always online".

I had JUST said this in a thread about BF4 I never got back to responding to lately.

Developers cannot win these days. Everything they do is wrong, no matter how much of what they are doing is completely right and fantastic for the video game industry. They can have shining examples of how developers ~should~ approach their video games but the fan base has no interest in showing positive feedback and support. Everything is negative, biased, and completely exaggerated.

This Dead Space thing is the next great example of how ridiculous people are getting. Over privileged and all-knowing rage heads.
Little do people know, Dead Space 1 the original, was supposed to be co-op and only co-op.

For once, Kotaku had a great article.

We need to care less. It's getting to a point where nothing positive is coming from fans.

Correction, nothing positive is coming from fans, regarding EA games. Quite rightly so. They're one of a couple of publishers who are making screw up after screw up.

edit:

and I say this because people see the title of an EA game in the thread title and just think "oh what on earth could they possibly have done now?" instead of giving them the benefit of the doubt, and with good reason because 9/10 it's EA screwing the pooch.

It's like a page on the ticker for the homepage could say "Activision intent on totally..." and people are not going to think "totally serious about milking COD until you want to throw up", even though the rest of that in the full thread could be "totally reshaping and hanging Bobby Kotick in public". Yet, you can't complain when people think bad things when all you generally hear are bad things.

That article was a pretty good read.

I really do think one of the gaming community's biggest enemies is the community itself. I feel like fun isn't that important to people anymore.

I thought DeadSpace was mostly boring. Just another generic shooter with excessive gore. Sometimes fun (somewhat reminded me of Doom), but nothing new or refreshing. Not worth buying. Certainly nothing scary about it.

Although i agree with this, i also think that it's reached a point where even if EA do make some good progress, it's immediately criticized just to fit the status quo. The name EA really makes alot of people cringe.
