Polishing my block?

Thread Starter
I have a Heatkiller CPU block that I'm taking out and putting Indigo Extreme. I have to reposition the outlet and thought I'd have some fun.

Is it going to damage my block if I polish the surface with something like 0000 steel wool or similar--I heard toothpaste is used sometimes? It's bowed (I thought) and I wouldn't want to mess that up. I know it won't make a temp difference but it might be interesting.

:-)

No, this process is called lapping. Look into it

If you're thinking of polishing the surface of the block that comes in contact with the cpu then I'd advise you don't try it. The surface is already polished with more precision than you'd be able to do by hand. You'd probably see more benefit if you stuck to cleaning the surfaces really well.
