Thinking about a new rig

Thread Starter
Heey! I am thinkin about a new rig.. Because my parents desktop is OLD.. They would LOVE the rig in my sig.. And dont think they need anything better. How much is it worth even?

BUT it would need a bit of swapping.. As they definatley DON'T need an Armour.. Or even a window..

Any suggestions welcome. C2D would be cool.. I would likely keep my 7900 and get them like.. a 7600 or sumin.. Again, suggestions.

Unfortunatley, they will be runing XP or Vista.. NOT linux.. BUT it will fold! Folding FTW! (And my new rig will too)

They have a 19" Dell CRT, Dell KB, Nice microsoft mouse.. Dell speakers..

Did any of that make sense?
THANKS!

gimme a number How much do you want to spend on it? And what do you exactly need?

For your parents, this would be a nice case:
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel $44.99 + $15.99 shipping = $60.98
And video: 3D Fuzion 3DFR76256GSE GeForce 7600GS 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 $88.88

Ooops.. I meant to say...

Depends on my rig value.. But anywhere between $600 and $1200 I guess....
(I want it to be VERY overclockable.. And I really DON'T need SLI compatability..)

Btw- Chozart- You ROCK. just wanted to say that!

Ok.. value of your rig:

A-64 3500+ AM2 NewOrleans: $80
ASUS M2N32-SLI Dluxe Wifi: $160
Zalman 9500 AM2: $50
Corsair XMMS 667 DDR2 1Gb: $100
250gb Sg-PATAwSATAadapter: $35
Hiper- type R 580 black: $80
Audigy 2 Zs Platinum Pro: $70
Gateway VX720 CRT 17": $10 (really not much more)
Total: $585. (say $600 for your parents plus the $150 or so for the case and video) - prices based on what those things go for on eBay

Assuming you keep the 7900, the case, and your kb/mouse

how much more can you spend on this rig?

I just composed an $1,500 one... so I just had to drop the case and video card (and I dropped the soundcard also... you can take the one from your old rig and let your parents live with onboard )

MoBo: gigaByte GA-965P-DS3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express $139.99
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 $181.99
RAM: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) $299.99
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB $94.99
DVD: LITE-ON 16X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE $27.99
CPU Cooler: Scythe SCINF-1000 120mm CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink $57.99
PSU: OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W $119.99
Monitor: Hanns·G HW-191DPB Black 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor $189.99

Subtotal: $1,112.92 + $29.49 shipping = $1,142.41

You *could* use the Hiper.. but I find it a little weak for a more high end rig... (only 30A on the 12V rails...)
I did include a 19" monitor... I mean.. gaming on 17"??
This rig will overclock pretty darn good. The Gigabyte board with the .Skill RAM and the E6300 is pretty much a proven combination, good for 3.0GHz + Speeds. If you're not that much of an overclocker, you can spend $40 extra for the E6400.

Sweet! And I would NEVER let my parents use onboard! (I got a nice little soundblaster an a drawer for them!)
And YES I will OC.

You rock! That is great!

I LOVE OCN!
(Rep+ for you!)

Seems like you're all set then

(you could keep the CRT as a second monitor )
