What Should I Do?

Thread Starter
I currently have an HTC Inspire 4G with AT&T. The phone is a piece of junk! I get horrible reception and I have been working with AT&T trying to fix the problem. I am eligible for an upgrade in December but they said they can work with me if I need to upgrade. I was just at the store and saw the new HTC One and the S3. These new phones are gigantic!! I have a family plan that is in my name. The other 2 phones are ready for upgrades but I was actually gonna break the other two lines away and just pay for my own phone (gotta cut costs since I'm laid off).

So my question is what should I do? I already told AT&T that if they can't help me I might switch to a different carrier.

go to sprint if you get service. im cancelling myself when my last upgrade is due... 5 months remaining so i dont have to pay their breech of contract bullcrap. reception doesnt work like it used to, way way WAY too many dropped calls, and voicemails a month later dont make for a good customer experience.

I have been in touch with AT&T's tech support. So far I've gotten them to credit me $150 for the inconvenience plus 2 months worth of their navigator app that I couldn't use since my phone won't connect to a gps satellite. They were supposed to contact me today since I reopened my case but I didn't get a call. They never contacted me about the case before closing it before. I have plenty of ammo against them. I intend to either get a new phone for free (Galaxy S3) or bolt and tell them to stuff their early cancellation fee. I did pretty much the same thing to Verizon years ago when they kept screwing me over. Sprint's plans look the best for me too. I do have coverage. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for the response +rep. thumb.gif

Sprint sucks too. I have an iPhone. 3G is unbelievably slow and video takes forever to download. However, they are the cheapest and have good customer service.

In my opinion, every cell company is horrible. They all have their flaws. I would honestly stick with AT&T. I really wish I had AT&T to be honest. I can't stand Sprint cell service anymore. There's a reason why it's so darn cheap wink.gif

Whatever you do, I would try and hold out till the holiday season, save up and buy the BIG DOG for whatever carrier you decide to go with. End of the year is usually when you will see the next jump forward in smart phones generations. Gotta stay ahead of the curve as much as you can. Get the biggest and best to future proof yourself. Life cycle of smart phones is getting smaller and smaller.

Find out which carrier has the best coverage in your area. Most likely it will be Verizon but if you want to cut costs this might not be the best option. They will be more $ than the rest but should offer the best coverage.

If you going with Sprint right now, I would either get the Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S III. Both are amazing phones.

if you're laid off, and money is tight enough to where you need to cut costs and drop lines, then i would stick with the POS phone until december, and if you're not back to working, i would go with a non-contract cheaper service. i wouldn't be too worried about my cell phone being cool.

but that's me.

They are all pretty bad. I have had the most luck with Verizon as far as connectivity. AT&T has the best customer service. I don't have any experience with Sprint. I would go to them because I have already burned my bridges with Verizon!!

The Nexus would be what I would go with if I went to Sprint. It is only $50 on Wirefly. I'd really like the S3 because I believe it is the best phone out right now.

I'm not worried about the phone being cool. I do use most of the features as far as texting and internet usage. I was using the gps navigation until the phone lost it's ability to connect to gps satellites. I called AT&T again today and they reset the connection to the network. It was working marginally better. I will see how it is working tomorrow. The biggest problem with AT&T is that their lineup of smartphones is really crappy.

Thanks for all the feedback. i really appreciate it. smile.gif

Well I now have a new phone. After several complaints to AT&T and them not being able to fix the problem, HTC released and update stating that my model of phone had problems, including poor signal strength and dropped calls. HTC issued an update to the phone's software and I was able to download and install it. Long story short, AT&T called me on Monday to see if the phone was working better and it wasn't. They allowed me an early upgrade to the Galaxy SIII and gave me a $50 credit to my account plus free next day shipping and waived all activation and other fees.

I got the phone yesterday, activated it and wouldn't you know it, I was able to get a steady 3 bars of signal inside my house (the old phone only ever got 1 bar and usually no bars). I am satisfied for now. Basically I got this phone for free because they had already credited my account $150 and $40 previously. I guess the squeaky wheel really does get the grease. BTW at no time did I ever raise my voice or get hostile with their customer service people. wink.gif
