Is it for people that wish to go quad SLI/Crossfire with a bajillion ton of other stuff in their rig?

The 1000 - 1200w psu are for Tri and Quad SLI/CF configs. Your PSU seems to have 60A on +12v. massive power. easily can drive two overclocked HD 7950s. thumb.gif

But he's wondering why some people get PSUs with a capacity that large when they only have one or two mid-range cards.

It can absolutely run 2 7950's.
For reference, I ran an overclocked i7 920 C0 stepping (3.4 GHz), a 4890, and a 4870x2 on my old tx750.
That's an immense amount of load with older power hungry cards, and the power supply worked just fine, and still works to this day, powering a 4870x2 and the same i7 24/7.
Anyways, the tx750 is a great power supply which will supply more than ample power to you cards and your build.
