Xbox 360, Samsung LN40B650t1f 40-inch TV 1080p screen stretched.

Thread Starter
Just hooked up my friends 360 to my 40-inch Samsung TV and when I change the display setting to 1080p the edges of the screen are cut off. It's fine when I change it to 720p but I would like to keep it at 1080p if at all possible. I am using component cables instead of HDMI, not sure if that makes a difference or not. Any help is appreciated guys, thanks!

Very likely. Turn off zoom mode on the TV.

Turns out the zoom option on the TV was never enabled which is what I expected, it is just set to 16:9. Went back to the 360 to make sure the screen is still stretched and it is. Any other ideas?

Your TV likely has other settings like zoom, stretch, adjust, etc. I've googled around for people that have this issue, and they all point to the TV settings.

I played around with all of the settings and couldn't find anything. I tried an HDMI cable and it works perfectly, problem with that is I use it for my PS3 so I have to switch it back and forth from the PS3 to 360. Not that big a deal but it would be nice if I didn't have to do that.

So HDMI works? What are you using for the 360, component? Does component even support 1080p? Back of my head is thinking no...

Got another HDMI input on the TV? Most come with 3 or 4 and HDMI cables are $3

EDIT - I reread your OP and yep component.

Thank you for actually reading the OP..

So apparently component cables make a difference. Obviously wasn't sure if I was missing something as I assumed I could get 1080p with said cables.
