So I'm guessing people who buy expensive HDTVs, calibrate them and buy HD cable/satellite/whatever service to watch their favorite sports teams play in HD aren't real fans of the teams they support huh? (not the best analogy, but it works). As long as you play games, you're a gamer, get over it.

No. But people who won't watch their team play because they haven't calibrated their big HDTV aren't really fans. In any case he doesn't mean it literally, he is just saying you miss out on a lot of good content if you only play games with the best graphics.

Again, I didn't say any game requires good graphics to have good gameplay.... you said that.

I said they go hand in hand, meaning, they go well together. For example, better graphics (or graphics engine) on a FPS game would be beneficial to the overall experience (better immersion, atmosphere, effects etc).

I guess someone like yourself wouldn't mind Battlefield 4 with Atari graphics, though. thumb.gif

WRONG. WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Graphics don't go hand in hand with anything. It's style, combined with everything else. A game does not need state of the art graphics to have style. A game doesn't exactly need style to be good, but it certainly helps draw you into the overall experience. A good artistic style, great sound design and solid gameplay concept are key to making a great game.

See Borderlands for this. The gameplay is solid, the stylized graphics add to the 'feel' of the game. If you add the sum of all the parts, you get something great.

Frozen Synapse has nearly NO graphics, but a unique style to the game. This compounded on the fact that it's a great strategy game.

Bastion is a game whose artistic merits and unique style of narration, on top of its solid Action RPG gameplay, create an experience unlike any other game out there.

Madworld for the Wii is another game that is exemplary of this. It's completely black/white cel shaded, with red for blood. The gameplay is solid but the graphics aren't really there. It's all style.

I can come up with more examples of this, but I'm about to go eat Cane's. I should be a game reviewer, because I 'get' it.

Okami. That's the last one for now I promise.

OF course I wouldnt I'm not a "real" gamer like yourself rolleyes.gif
I mean of course graphics makes the atmosphere, Doom probably never had atmosphere, and that comic booky cartoony graphics in boarderlands no atmosphere there, the unimpressive/dated source engine nope not immersive at all. Course has to be frostbite 2 to be immersive. thumb.gif

Oh wait I found some more
Superbrother swords & sworcery? Atari graphics no immersion there oh wait the audio is great but audio never makes good gameplay
Killing Floor? That old 2001 game psh graphics are nothing comapred to bf4 not immersive at all.

Ditto.
I want a good experience AND (relatively) good graphics! I hate this new strategy of theirs.

What are you, 12 years old?

Anyway, artistic style falls under graphics/visuals... And lastly, you need to look up the definition of "hand in hand".
