Trying to find the best heatsink...

I'm trying to find the best heatsink to use in my case. Not with fans included, because I'll probably swap them anyways. But just which heatsink itself will cool best. About a year ago, I had a Cooler Master V8 which cooled my AMD 955 BE very nicely. Then, I switched over to a new case (Corsair 600T) and the temperatures went up a bit. Which was odd, as the 600T had more fans and less cables in the way. Eventually, I switched over to an Intel build. After doing so, the temperatures went up even MORE. (Maybe an i5 2500 at stock is warmer and a stock 955 BE?)

After that I decided to give water cooling a try, and have been using an H100 for some time now. The H100 was a few degrees warmer than the Cooler Master V8.

So, my question to you, is which heat sink should I buy? I know the 212 plus is one of the most praised. But is there one that will cool drastically better?

Also, if I do decide on getting one, would it be recommended to get a second fan for push/pull?

Here's is my current build, it's in a 550D. I never hear the fans, but the H100 tick gets annoying.
Right now I have two 120mm top exhaust under the radiator, one 120mm rear exhaust. Two 120mm intakes in the front. And you can't see it, but one bottom mounted 120mm on the side panel for exhaust for the GPU's and one top 120mm for intake on the CPU/motherboard VRM area.

So, here's a picture. I'll be anticipating response. :]

As far as I know, the Noctua NH-D14 is the the highest performing heatsink on the market, last I checked.

Honestly though, why not just go watercooled? Less noise, and better performance than any heatsink will ever give you. A cpu only loop would cost $200 MAX, and could probably be built for ~$120. I built mine for $150, but mine has 2 5400rpm server fans on the radiator, which cost $20 a pop.

If you do go for air cooled, and decide to go for less performance with more noise, push-pull is obviously advised, as well as higher rpm fans. The more air flow you can get, the lower your temps.

Still though, it doesn't cost that much more to go water cooled, and get better temps, with less noise.

Well, I'd considered using water cooling. But I'd like to include my cards into the loop if possible. Plus, I don't think I could water cool in this case. The only 25mm thick radiator I've seen is the Corsair H100/H80. And I'd rather not spend that much or maintenance it.

You don't need to maintenance that often, maybe once every couple of months. Why not put the radiator outside the case?

The h100 is going to give you better temps than most air coolers. I have one as well in my 550d. You should set it up as intake you will see better temps.

I say go with the NH-D14 if your ram fit, you wont regret it its near silent and it's way simpler to clean. The only downside is that it's a enormous heatsink..

I don't think a out-of-case radiator would really work well with where I have my computer places. Tubes would need to be rather small.
Plus, I don't have enough money to dish out for a full WC loop.

If you're dead set on air, which I have no problems with, the NH-D14 is the legitimately highest performing heatsink on the market. As a previous poster said though, check the specs to make sure your ram fits underneath. The thing is a beast, and covers up a whole micro-atx board almost.

The Prolimatech Megahalems and the Thermalright Silver arrow are basically up there with the NH-D14 also.

Not exactly sure about that... Like I said, CPU temps went up when I started using the H100. I got around 80F idle with my V8 on my 955, then when I got the 600T I got around 85F. After going to Intel, I got around 90F. After getting the H100, shot up to like 98F-ish idle. And in the 550D idle is now like 105F.

I have been considering the NH-D14. Not sure if my RAM would fit. It should I only use two DIMMs, the last two. Maybe I'll buy a used heatsink cheap on E-bay or something, clean it out, and install it.
