Which mechanical keyboard to get? - Page 3

Well it depends on what you want. What switches do you want? Red, Blue, Black, or Brown?

Red: Red switches do not have tactile feedback or a clicky sound, but they are sensitive and are used in most gaming keyboards.

Blue: Has tactile feedback, AND clicky sound. (Blues are my personal favorite)

Black: Like reds, has no tactile feedback or a clicky sound, but unlike reds they require for you to press all the way down.

Brown: Browns have tactile feedback but no clicky sound (note: these are usually more expensive that the other switches).

___

All depends on what you want really, there aren't many keyboards with back lighting for under $130.

My recommendations for all switches:

Browns: Rosewill RK-9000BR | Das Keyboard Model S Professional Silent

Reds: Corsair Vengeance K60 | CM Storm Quickfire Rapid

Blues: Das Keyboard Model S Professional | Razer Blackwidow Ultimate | Rosewill RK-9000

Blacks: Mionix Zibal 60

____

There are probably more out there, but these are just my recommendations of keyboards that i have tried and read about. Hope this helps you.

I have not heard good things about the QF Pro. The other QF boards are great. I have a Rapid in brown and red. I love the reds. They make me type more carefully and once I got used to that much faster. They do encourage a bit more touch typing over my usual hunt and smash.

Keep your eye on the Ducky Shine. It is probably the board you want. The Shine II is coming soon (Sept by the rumor mill.) so the 1 should come down in price, or get it used.

Blacks and reds are identical apart from the spring used.

Reds have a lighter spring where blacks use a much heavier spring (45cN vs 60cN)

-Do the other QF boards have backlighting?
-I guess I'll consider all switches except for black, as they require a lot of force to press...
-Amazon doesn't sell Ducky Shines, so I can't buy them. :/

Did you know OCN sells Duckys? Tank guy sells them for us. The have OCN flame and stuff. Just saying wink.gif

For combination of typing and gaming, brown is the better choice, usually. Red is a good option though. But it very much depends on your typing and gaming stlye. I know some people just need 2, one for each task.

No, I think the other QF are not back lit. Are you sure you need that? WASD keyboards to expencive for you? How about the Rosewell? Hmmm. I thought they had backlighting.... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823201044

yeah, you can take it off. it's a softcoated (rubberlike) material that's actually comfortable, not hard plastic like the ones on Razer Lycosas. I usually take mine off, but my k90's is still on.

Sounds like an adaptation phase issue according to this article...it makes sense that one would have to get used to keys that require lighter pressure before getting best typing proficiency and efficiency from it. I'm used to the Reds now and don't like the Browns anymore. I think they (the reds) are perfect for my weak pinkies lol.
