Physical sales of PC games is dying....

Most of those trackers do not account for digital sales. They miss a massive portion of the market.

Why are people so surprised PC gaming is growing?

Considering PC is far ahead of consoles in terms of graphic quality (which is really what a good portion of console gamers argue about, ironically enough) I'm sure many of them are switching over to PC, since there hasn't been a new console in many years. Aside from remakes of course. I'm sure once the next-generation xbox comes out, albeit it only has a 6670, people will just switch back over to that for it's ease of use.

Then, a few years down the road when PC's are really out-classing consoles, they'll get a high end computer for a few years, and go back to console.

It's a pattern I see amongst many people.

a lot of my friends are bought gaming rigs in the last 3-5 months because they wanted to play diablo 3. They were die hard console gamers.

As pointed out one can do a PC for the price of PS3 that beats anything consoles can do. For example, this is a ~200 euro PC (my backup PC)
LL
AMD Semptron 140 (unlocked to 2 core + OC), 8 Gb of RAM, Asus 4870 1 Gb GFX card. Well ok mobo is a bit more expensive, but you can get cheaper mobo that can do the same within ~200 euro budget. It runs Portal and Unreal 3 quite decently at 1280x1024 and even has some AA on at framerate thats better than XBox or PS3 at 720p.

It's windows vista so thats why the score goes up to 5.9, it was increased a bit in windows 7 (its logarithmic scale so exponential growth of performance the higher you go with the score).

This is also why i hate this entire "PC master race" bull. It just fits perfectly with the immature image console gamers often present themselves as. For the most part, i consider PC gaming far superior not just from a price perspective, but value for money too. More freedoms and functionality with far, far less restrictions, bugs, and hardware issues (That for some, fixing themselves isn't an issue)

If being elite means using your brain to make better purchases, then heck, i'm as elite as they come.

Watch the PC platform decrease in popularity when the next gen consoles hit, then the cycle can start all over again. Me, though, i'll be sticking exclusively to PC's unless something comes along that proves to be better, which won't happen.

The only current gen console i got was a Wii, which i sold within a month due to lack of decent titles and the rather irritating controls. Console gaming died after the Nintendo 64 period, imo.

To be fair, though, I think the first half of their life-cycle consoles were sort of decent hardware wise. It's just that the second half PC's kinda started offering clear advantages over a console if you consider the whole package, i.e., machine + lets say about 15 games.

Last few years its been just silly value wise, where you can get the hardware for the same price as console which does it all better and then, on top of that, you are slapped with 60$ games without modding support while you get the same game on PC from steam for 15$.

The problem, in my opinion is not consoles explicitly but that Sony and MS have dragged their hardware waaaay past their "best before" date.

It was a decent console (Better than Wii at least), but really, for me it was just the start of the decline. Nintendo went in a direction where they made the games appeal to a younger audience with the GC. The Wii is just that but on a grander scale, and with a poorer game library.

1. you can make a gaming pc for the same price of a console that has 2x the framerate at the same settings.
2. you can buy games for much cheaper on the steam and amazon sales.

Saints Row 3 i just got before yesterday for 10$. console its still 60$.
Got witcher 1 for 3$. Consoles...does consoles even have W1?
Got witcher 2 for 15$ on amazon forever ago. On consoles? 60$
Sonic Generations for 10$. Consoles? you know...

PC you can wait for deals like such.
Consoles. You need a fat wallet. lol

In the end, no matter how much you spend on your rig, it will be cheaper do to game prices.
Also, you gain heightened immersion, community maps and mods (just cause 2 multiplayer biggrin.gif:D:D:D), and these ubersales.

PC>Consoles in every single aspect. Even price.

Fair enough, although I can't think of many instances where Nintendo has tried to appeal to the mature market of gamers, though I could be mistaken
