1.61v on air?

Thread Starter
I'm using the Athlon II x2 250 DA-C3 and to get all the way up to 4.1ghz i need a vcore of 1.61v. I'm using the stock cooler of the phenom II x4 955BE,the one with the two cooper pipes. If i run it at this voltage, how long will my chip last and how much danger am i in? Any suggestions?tongue.gif

Extreme danger, i don't like the odds of your chip lasting very long, but then again i'm not 100% familiar with this particular chip

Don't. Get a decent cooler first, the 212 is dirt cheap and effective thumb.gif

If you want to have a chip for the next 6 months (and i think i'm being very generous with that time period), drop the voltage and grab a better cooler!

No Athlon II is going to take being jolted with 1.6v for very long. It may be able to tolerate it from a temperature standpoint, but the silicon can't take that kind of voltage and survive very long without damage. Use 1.5v, tops, if you want to keep that CPU from dying an untimely death.

Thought it would be too much. Hope i haven't caused any irreversible damage to my chip at these voltages. I backed down to 3.9ghz at 1.52v. Is that safe or will my chip give way after a few months with a voltage of 1.52?

Your fine at 1.52v, it's not much higher then 1.5, so the silicon should be able to take the punishment.

Everyone loves the 212. I've had no problems with my two A50s.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181012

I would recommend it if it still was $25 that goes to $10 after MIR. I'm not sure if it worth the wait at it's current value (I would still buy it for $18 after MIR, but I can't recommend). The 250 seems to be a great little overclocker. You got me wanting to overclock my 250u! I won't even get to 2.6 rolleyes.gif
