I hate reading about his stuff. Almost as much as I hate browsing the Fios plans.

We're stuck paying $390/month for 35 down 5 up for our office with Time Warner Business Class.

We are only interested in upload speed improvements and 5 up is the best our area has to offer. frown.gif

I wish I even had the availability of the great speeds some of you have. But then id lose the fun of buying a game and waiting 1day+ before I can play it!

Even with this new doubling of speed, I'll be on FIOS in about 10 months. I can get all the HD channels I have now (more or less, I don't watch TV anyway), with 75/35 internet from FIOS for $15 less a month... plus I can get a $400 VISA pre-paid for taking a 2 year deal.

As long as they're not talking $250 a month once 2 years is up, I'm game.

Doesn't work that way, electricity (PG&E in the Bay Area) is a monopoly but they don't get to charge whatever they want.

That's different. Where the energy companies are regulated price-wise by the US government, ISP's aren't. There's millions of miles worth of dark fiber buried under our feet and no one is using it, or, rather, using all of it. They could easily be using the fiber instead of coaxial lines and be providing huge amounts of bandwidth for little cost, but they don't. To charge 75 a month for basic cable and internet should be criminal. Government doesn't care, so the ISPs do it.

TWC is grabage. 1MB/s download and 100KB/s upload on a good day. ~$50 a month I think.

What really gets me though, is not the speed, but the price for such speeds. Like, 390$/month for 35 / 5 is really poor. The second example being a bit better but still. I wonder when this actually improves.redface.gif

I still kind of think these numbers got to be trolling redface.gif I mean, I have 1Gbps optic fiber ( uncapped, just for myself, 99% up time ) that is 120-127 down and 10 up. The upload kind of suck, but increasing the upload to say 50 or 100 for a few bucks shouldnt be an issue if needed ( just give it a call ). The price is 15$/month and you get a Cable / WiFi router modem. If in package with TV, it all cost about 45$ and you get 117 TV Channels from which quite a few are in High Definition + a high end set-top-box with a 250 WD HDD..... wink.gif

I dont know, really tongue.gif We almost take this for granted around here. Pretty much the first couple of months the speeds were unstable due to overload, because too many people ordered the new package, lol.
