i7 3930k 4.9 offset OC

Thread Starter
Hi all
Dont know if anyone remembers, but i had some temp issues with my i7 3930k not that long ago. Any OC past 4.1 would see my Prime temps reach 80-90 under 1 min!
I assumed i had a very very hot chip.....but i was wrong..... It turned out to be the H100! I changed for a complete custom loop using EK Supremeacy Nikel Plexi block, EK 360 XT Rad, XPSC Dual bay res and Alphacool D5 pump. I ditched the AS5 paste and used MX4.,...I was amazed at the difference in temps! I can now OC to 4.6 with Prime temps at about 65-67 max! - i was well chuffed with that thumb.gif

But i wanted to see just how far i could push it.

Currently i have it OC'd to 4.9 using an offset of +0.010, LLC on Ultra High. This makes my Load Vcore (in CPUZ) 1.424

Obviously 4.9 is a fair bit higher that 4.6 and therfore requires a lot more Vcore, which in turn generates a LOT of heat. My idle temps are irrelevant but they are at 28-30. And my load temps in Prime are 79 deg C max - thats with HT dissabled and RAM at 1333. I have found that HT generates a lot of heat and so does higher RAM freq. My RAM is supposed to run at 2133, underclocking it at 1333 helps me achieve a lot lower temps at high clock speeds

Just wanna know what other peoples i73930k temps are like at 4.9 or higher

ps heres a pic of the new setup:

Cheers smile.gif

I'm happy for your success. You are the first one which admit that H100 it is not so powerful like people say : "Just apply H100 and your problems will gone" applaud.gif

If you want to go in range over 4.6 GHz add water block for VRM -> it is easy to install thumb.gif

What motherboard are you using? I was at 4.8 on my asrock xtreme 9 but it was on auto settings running way too hot for my liking. Im now sitting at 4.2 on my settings but your post has inspired me to stop being lazy and go for higher lol. Ill post back. As for temps now my max is around 41c after folding all night. This is on 1.36 vcore and LLC set to 2.

i'm using Asus Rampage IV Formula.

Auto settings bump up the Vcore waaaay too much. Always best to do it manually. Offset is def the way to go tho thumb.gif let me know what ur results are smile.gif

Could be block pressure too. Most mounting kits for off the shelf heatsinks don't seem to hold the thing down very well. Even with air coolers, going with custom mounting hardware can save 3-5C off load temps.

^^^ very true - i had major probs mounting mine, had to mount sideways in the end as holes didnt line up - poor show from Corsair if you ask me, compared to their other products smile.gif

Nice board... I have the same one biggrin.gif
How's this for an overclock, I think I have a REALLY good one biggrin.gif
I saw this guy who was @ 4.8GHz and needed 1.5v lol... poor man biggrin.gif

edit:
I can't say that this is 24/7 stable just yet, it's only priming for 15 mins or so... but of course I'm happy with it so far, I was already impressed with its stability @ 4.7GHz with this voltage, let alone 4.8 biggrin.gif
LLC on High here... that keeps the idle and load voltage both @ 1.304v smile.gif
I'm not using offset, I just type in the voltage in the BIOS.
What does offset do anyway, well I know what it does, but I mean offset from what value exactly? 1.40v or so?
Or is that cpu dependant too?

Nice work! Def looks like a top chip \o/ awesome temps! is that with HT on or off?

did you run Blend in Prime yer? have you run Intel Burn test?
