It's one of the only games I purchased on release.. I'm ashamed of myself for buying it to be honest, it's terrible. It ran like crap on my Q9400 which it should have ran fine, my cards are good enough to run it too.
GTA IV loves VRAM, Quad Core CPU's (high clocks are better), and RAM. It hates Crossfire/SLI and SSD's obviously do nothing for it.
That being said, a FX4100 will NOT run it at all, no matter what the box says. 4GB of RAM is pushing it and the 7770 won't run it well either.
For reference, My old laptop ran it better than my old desktop..
Laptop: i7 720QM, 4GB DDR3, 5730M
Desktop: Q9400 @ 3.4GHz, 6GB DDR2, 2x 6850's overclocked..

It will run it. I'm playing the game right now.

And yeah my motherboard is terrible also tongue.gif

I'm not trying to be insulting, I just tell it like I see it.Fx4100 is a little underpowered to run GTA IV.
You can turn down draw distances..(which I loathe doing on any game)
and shadows and maybe get some improvement.I'd cut the shadows, 1st.

Seriously, I had to spend weeks trying to find and get working mods to bypass GFWL because it refused to log-in. Some problem came up because I was trying to log in with my Xbox Live account(which you think would work.) Don't waste money trying to get the game working, it'll have one problem or another no matter what you do. It was the only game I've played that actually NEEDED me to OC my CPU to make it playable and that's when I had an i5 750.

I don't get this. I'm playing using my sig rig, and I can manage just fine. I have average 45fps in GTA IV, and all my options are @ medium(since it won't let me go higher, DX11 or VRAM related, I'd guess) with the draw distance/detail at pretty much 50 %. This is a lot prettier than on consoles, and I can run it just fine. I play @ 1440x900, though.

GTA IV is DX10 lol, it might even be DX9.. I agree low settings looks better than consoles to me tongue.gif
It runs fine because when the game was released a 4870 was a high end card, I remember 'cause my friend got his old rig (E8500 + 4850) built around it, I also know that it runs great on Phenom II's as I have a friend with a Phenom 965BE at stock and a 5850 that can run it on high only being limited by his 4GB of ram. I know that medium will run fine on a 512mb card, but a 256mb card will struggle to run it and I don't know if 1GB will max it.

Almost any quadcore is good enough, It didn't run well on my Q9400 though for some reason.. Which is meant to be better clock for clock over a 965BE. rolleyes.gif

EDIT: I just installed EFLC to play with a friend online.. So we'll see how it goes! wink.gif

EDIT2: I ran it on max and it was okayish.. According to the benchmark in TBoGT i get an average of 33fps and nothing is maxed? Processor hits about 52% usage, memory sits on 25% usage and graphics card(s)? Sit on about 50% usage too. So I don't see how i'm not pushing out 60+ FPS?

The game is just optimized like crap. Nothing to do with your hardware.
