Buying a Catleap - is the perfect pixel program legit?

Hey everyone,

I want to get a Yamakasi Catleap from Green-sum, the perfect pixel version which says zero dead pixels costs about $70 more than one without. I did read in one post someone stated that people were buying perfect pixel displays and still getting dead/stuck pixels (though I didn't come across anyone actually saying it happened to them), so I didn't know if only specific sellers could be trusted, or if the whole thing is bogus--or if the comment was just wrong.

Any feedback would be great! thanks!

It should be, and if you get a defective pixel, ebay/paypal has your back on that one as the item is not as advertised. I'd recommend it if you're extremely OCD about pixel defects like I am.

yes but is it not true that the seller will just refund you a % of the cost instead of shipping it back? I read here that the perfect pixel is really just a way to make an extra 70 bucks since most monitors will arrive ok and the ones that don't they just refund that 70 back..(price of a non perfect pxiel) I purchased a perfect pixel pcbank and I was fortunate enough to receive a perfect pixel monitor, unfortunately it also has a faint line running across the bottom. *only really noticeable against a white background..So is it worth it ? really up to you, if it helps you sleep at night then by all means but I think its a gamble either way.

Just a forewarning, even if the monitor has zero dead pixels, the backlight still might be poor.

Additionally the perfect pixel programs do not guarantee against stuck pixels, so you can still get stuck pixels. Further, after reading the fine print on many of the sellers the perfect pixel program doesn't refund you the extra cost if there is a dead pixel, they just refund $10 per dead pixel you find. So, no, I wouldn't (and didn't) go with the extra cost of the perfect pixel, I ordered and saved a few bucks.

Now the really important thing to remember is.....

At such high resolution, 2560x1440, a dead pixel or two is going to be VERY hard to see, even if it is dead center you won't notice in all but a select number of circumstances. Additionally all the higher rep sellers had a dead pixel return policy usually between 3 and 5 dead pixels, you can send it back and they will pay shipping.

Getting a dead pixel or two with these monitors is not a huge deal unless there are a cluster in the center or something. I havent heard of that happening yet. I have a dead pixel on mine and its only slightly noticeable on an all white screen.
I also bought from green sum, months ago however. And got a B panel.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. After some more research I decided to order from bigclothcraft based on the support experience for people who had issues.

I did decide to not to go with pixel perfect--obviously A- displays with have some issue with them so it is just a trade off (and the more I thought about it, it was just paying extra for a different problem). I photoshopped myself up a 1080p (for my existing monitor) image and painted 5 pixels on it to simulate stuck or dead pixels just to see what it looked like and while it could be seen on a white background, it didn't seem like that big of a deal considering all the other dirt on my screen I seem to live just fine with--the Catleap is a higher dpi so it can only be harder to see them.

bigclothcraft is a dishonest seller. Took me over 2 months to finally get refund from ebay buyer protection after he ignored returned monitor in clearance for 3.5 weeks (he had sent message saying I could return it, then ignored all messages since in May). He also gave bad contact information and would not respond to myself or Ebay. And yes as others have said the pixels are usually not the issue. I have had 4 Koreans monitors now, 1 with yellow patch in corner, 1 with horrible backlight bleed and buzzing, then it died after 2 weeks (both catleaps). Others had very bad backlight bleed (DGM) and finally yellow staining in the corners and backlight bleed.

Stopped the Korean monitor game now, going to get a proper quality monitor.

Sounds like a bad experience for sure - I got my monitor today, arrived 2 days after I ordered it. I only had about 15 minutes with it before I had to leave for a business trip. I'll be able to spend more time once I get back Friday but I didn't see any dead pixels or any other obvious issues. I thought the brightness or gamma might be a bit off but I haven't played with it at all yet.

I ordered a non perfect pixel one. It has 4 bad pixels on the edges but no backlight bleed or other issues. Unless I run tests to try and find them with a magnifying glass I can' t see them during normal use.
